Hate your HVAC system? This may help. (1 Viewer)

I just spent a couple hours running errands in ~95 degree temps. The "Max Cool" feature more than kept up. Just one button push from the "favorites" screen, so no need to fiddle with stuff. I ended up dialing back the fan speed after a while.

We were in 95F temps for several days on a trip. Never even used Max Cool.

We'd go out to a blazing hot parked car and the Auto AC cranked itself up on start and cooled it down in a couple of minutes. I can't remember owning another vehicle with the ability to cool a super hot interior as fast as the GX.

Has any one noticed very little air flow from the rear vents on the OT + model? Mines a 2025. I cranked the fan speed with concierge and S flow off.
Any update on this? I just came here to write this exact thing and saw your comment... both front and rear fan speed on maximum and virtually no air flow through the middle row roof vents ... it's funny because mines a 5 seater and the very back row vents work at full capacity but the middle row doesn't work at all... so strange. Also my 25 ot hasn't got the s-flow setting everyone is talking about.

Actually this is configurable in the app. If you swipe up (click the up arrow above the 'Start' button in the app) and click on the 'Climate' button you can set the temp, heat/cool the seats, heat the steering wheel, and turn on the defrosters when using the app to start the truck, irregardless of how they were set when you last shut the truck off.

I'm quite confused about this. Whenever I remote start my 2025 OT, all climate controls are turned off. Seat heat, steering wheel, defroster, etc... Off. This is stupid and is driving me nuts. In my version of the app, there's a "Climate Settings - Start vehicle to activate" button. When I tap on it, I see a "Custom Schedule" toggle "Uses the settings below when you remote start your vehicle".

Below that is a single control for temperature.

I have the Custom climate toggle ON and temp set to 73.

When I remote start the car and get in it, my seat & steering heat is off, the temperature is NOT set to 73 degrees, and the heat is not on.

What am I doing wrong?

I had this issue with my app, I think because I was hasty and entered my VIN before it was delivered. I had a ton of issues with the Lexus app when I first got the vehicle.

I believe the technical terminology you need to use with Lexus support is that "your app needs its feature flags reset, because you're missing Climate features".

I was never successful in getting Lexus Support to fix this - it seems to have fixed itself after fully resetting my phone to stock (without transferring any data) and reinstalling the Lexus app, making sure to sign in via my phone number rather than email.

not sure if you got this to work yet from your Phone, but I was having a similar problem getting the climate settings, but now it all works good. I toggled a couple times the On and Off in the Climate Setting, Custom Climate, set Temp, scrolled down to toggle on the heat seats, steering wheel, defrosts and clicked Save Settings. When I remote start I keep start icon pressed until I see the words "climate starting" appear

Anybody figure out how the GX's automatic detection of rear passengers for climate control works? This past weekend, I finally had rear passengers sit in my vehicle for a road trip and it seems to just randomly decide when to enable the rear climate - almost like it's broken.

When people first got in, I made sure they opened the rear doors and were fully belted in before turning the vehicle on and I still had to manually enable the rear climate. This happened over two days of driving again and again.

Then after spending the night and dropping them off, goin home while the back seats were fully empty with no weight or seat belts, the car suddenly decided people were back there and it should blast the heat in the rear. I didn't open the rear doors or anything.

If it's going to force its intelligent algorithm, then the algorithm should be at least a little intelligent, no?

Long post - if you love your HVAC as-is, just skip.

I continue to see posts about the HVAC system in the GX not working well. It's overly complicated, and doesn’t do what you wish it would do.

It can be made to work quite well and behave like you’d expect an auto climate control to work. How? Just turn off the complicated stuff and leave it in basic auto mode. Then its ‘set and forget’.

Here is how I use my 25 OT+ HVAC and it works great now.

SETUP

1. On the main climate screen choose CLIMATE (right above the fan control)

2. From that screen turn the Concierge off. Turn S-flow Off. I turned Eco mode and De-icer off too. Unnecessary.

3. Now, go to vehicle settings and choose Climate

Here you can set the A/C mode to always come on when in AUTO or not come on. Right now it’s cool in my area of the country and I like the windows down. So I leave OFF. When it’s hot in the summer, I’ll probably turn ON. All this does is decide the default for whether AC will always run with AUTO mode.

4. Turn OFF the auto seat and steering wheel heat/cool from the main screen.

Just use them as you need them. If you do want them in Auto mode keep tapping the icon for seat and wheel and it will rotate to AUTO. I just like to use them manually as I need them.

At this point the car runs in a normal AUTO mode. Set temp and it’ll direct the fan and vents as needed.

MANUAL OPERATIONS are readily available if you still need them.

5. You can always select the fan and vent direction from the main screen and it’ll turn off auto mode.

6. You can engage/disengage AC from the AUTO mode as well (and still stays in AUTO)

7. Finally, your max settings are just one click away from the shortcut screen.

Once set, my HVAC works as well as other AUTO climate systems I've had. 99% of the time I only need to set temp and the system does the rest without drama.

Good luck!
Excellent post. For those that want to change S-Flow to default to OFF, talk to your dealer. I have my 1 year PM coming up and have scheduled the dealer to make the change to have S-Flow always off rather than to go back to ON after the one hour with engine OFF. Just talk to the dealer.

Just did this at my 10k ✅
