Largest tires on 18” wheels! (1 Viewer)

So what modifications would need to be made for a 285/70/18 to fit the spare location? That is what I'd really like to run.
All this is good info, but his question was about the spare tire location. I know I have seen a few comments in different places, but I'm not sure if we have a definitive answer. I do know that if you get a 285 width to fit, which you can fit a 285/65 since it's the same diameter as 265/70, the extra width impacts the departure angle and you can see it hanging down below the bumper more.

i have 275/65/20 and it just fits in the spare location at 33". Not sure what can be done to fit another .7 inches. Maybe deflating the tire and squeezing it in. Believe it is the hitch and a cross brace of the frame that are the limiting factors
I'm new to this forum and its good to know that 275/65/20 fits in the spare location. Question is will that tire size fit well on Premium plus without rubbing specially on the front wheel well when turning? Thanks

I'm new in this forum. Thank you for the info that 275/65/20 fits in spare location. Do you know if this tire size fits well in premium plus without rubbing any part of the wheel well specially on the front during full wheel turn. Thanks

if you stick to the stock rim or an offset higher than +35, you should have no rubbing issues at that size. You can get up to 35" on stock rims with no lift and no rub if you don't care about your spare matching.

good morning. I am also interested in replacing my premium plus tires size from 265/55/R20 to 275/65R20..did you do any modification to the wheel well or 275/65/R20 just fits well without rubbing specially when turning the wheels full? Thank you

I didnt see that my question have answered already. I'm thinking about matching all tire size and figure out how I can keep it in the spare location without sticking out too much. Thank you for the information ..I can proceed of changing the tire size using the original rim.

I actually have 276/60/20 (33")...so sorry for the typo

I can only say that based on the size, 276/65/20 should work on the stock rim without rubbing, but I don't have that size or rim, so I can't be 100%. Tire brand/style also plays a factor in fitment, so it's all a best guess. I'm not so sure that 1 275/65/20 will fit in the spare, though.

I signed up to first say thank you for this thread.

Second, I put 285/75/18 KO3s on my wife's OT+ today. As noted, the "crash bars" (useless metal brackets) needed to be removed. No rubbing at full lock. Looks 10x better than the comparatively wimpy stock tires.

Ride is sound and it absorbs bumps a little better given more rubber. I get that they are E-rated (stiff) but I'm not upset about how it drives. I may go lower on the tire pressure to soften it more, since I don't plan on towing anytime soon.

@stb416 - What have you done in regard to the spare tire?
I haven't addressed this yet. Any recommendations? My understanding is that a 35" spare won't fit underneath. I've never had this thing in a true off-road environment, and it probably won't see more than dirt trails in its ownership with us.

275/70/18 will fit or around 33"+. Some have been able to fit slightly larger tires, like a 285/70/18 with some maneuvering. But anything larger will be more difficult and will hang down the rear more and more.

I'd say around town, it's not bad to go without a spare, but if you're going out in the shit, you might need to figure out alternative solutions for carrying a spare.

an option if you lose space for a spare is to pack a tire repair kit for a typical flat from nails/screws, etc. I've used the product below with success on my other vehicles and stow it in my OT now, the kit fits in the tool space at rear cargo cover. Having the compressor makes this an easy tire fix to get back on the road.

I just put 285/70 Toyos on my stock 25 OT. So far zero rub at full lock in forward and reverse, and they didn’t have to remove the crashbar or modify anything. Definitely looks better and the tires fill out the wheel wells without looking stuffed.

That looks really good. The 24 I have really could use a level. Are you running a spare in the same size?
