Overtrail plus glass (2 Viewers)

I was thinking the same thing. The extra 7 to 9k for the plus is not worth it to me. Everything extra your get would be nothing I would ever need or use. Plus I understand that the massaging seats actually hinder the heated portion of the seat. And
I always use the heated seats.

Again the glass alone makes the door feel tough and heavy and heated seats in the rear Tail gate thing comes in handy too
So it’s kind of worth the upgrade but I get it .. it’s expensive. I saw the LX 600s drop to 107k. Almost jumped ship to that!
But lx looks like a grandpa mobile :) no offense to grandpas ;)

I believe all models have heated seats so you wouldn't need a plus for that. I could see how the tailgate kick to open could be convenient, but I heard it is temperamental and just walking near it could cause it to close on your head. I wonder if the added sound deadening in the doors have something to do with the doors sounding more solid. I hear that is added to models with acoustic/double pane glass. That could possibly added after the fact also.

It can’t be. The glass is thicker and would require different channels to fit. That’s why the ones with the dual pane glass have that little nub on the front of the window frame. You’d probably need to upgrade all the window seals etc, which I’m not even sure if they’re compatible.

For instance I noticed the trims that have the thicker glass also have extra seals between the front door and rear door and front fender and I wanted to add that to mine, except the seals clip into the doorframe itself with little plastic clips and trims that don’t come from the factory with it don’t have the holes in the door frame for the clips, meaning the OT+ has a different door compared to the regular OT.
So you're telling me all I need is an entire OT+ door... hmmm so you're saying there's a chance...! šŸ˜€

The OT plus has REAR heated seats the regular OT does not
OT plus massage function but I agree
That is one thing not worth paying for
I also forgot to mention on the plus you can open and lock from any of the four door handles
By just touching. With the OT I would touch front then open rear for the kids but now I reach for the rear and boom

To my understanding, there's two differences between OT / Premium and all other trims:
  1. Thicker laminated windows to reject outside noise and improve thermal insulation
  2. Extra door seals which further reject wind noise - GXs with these seals have visible black rubber between the front & rear doors (also between the rear door and C pillar) when the doors are closed, which OT and Premium (non-plus) trims don't have
If you're looking for sound insulation, I would bet that you'd get more value by strategically applying extra sound deadening under the carpet and in the doors. I'm thinking a product like dynamat.

IMO the GX isn't a particularly quiet cabin even in Lux+ trim - it's shaped like a brick no matter what. For the cost of a set of four doors, you can get your car professionally insulated at a pretty high end shop and cut down road noise significantly more than by adding some double-laminated windows and a few extra wind seals. Plus it should significantly improve the sound quality of the factory speakers. Only downside is it'll probably add a few hundred pounds of extra weight.

So now I'm curious if the OT+ glass can be swapped to an OT or if more work/parts are needed than just the glass... I'd really like to do this if it is possible!

Wonder if it also helps with the rattling sound of closing the OT front doors with the windows down since glass is considerably thicker?
Rattle closing doors when the windows are down is universal to every vehicle I've ever seen. It's just a fact of how a sliding window is designed.

It's the same reason frameless windows (like on a coupe) rattle like crazy when you shut the door - even on a BMW 8 series.

Agreed. While I'm glad to have the thick glass for some more sound deadening in the OT+, it's not a make or break for the vehicle. There is still obviously wind noise at speed. Money would be better spent on professional sound deadening installation. There is a decent amount of room in between panel where some could be added. Better bang for your buck.

Could someone with an Overtrail+ please post a few photos of the door seals?

I've noticed wind noise in my driver's side front door up around the forward edge of the window where the window top dives down where it meets the A-pillar. I've obsessively cleaned all the rubber seals and I can't quite nail down where the wind is making the noise. I'd like to add some additional rubber seals around the doors, if possible. I realize I can't use the OT+ seals (unless I happened to find OT+ front doors).

One thing I miss about my 2013 Land Rover LR4 is the door seals. It had a double-row of thick rubber seals completely surrounding all 4 doors. The doors closed like submarine hatches and were absolutely quiet.

I happened to be picking up parts at my dealer. Here you go. It’s from a Premium Plus but same seals:

ah.....so those body gaps are filled with seals. Interesting, thank you!
Yeah. To my knowledge the inner seals are the same, it’s just some weatherstripping along the gaps of the doors. Along with the dual pane front windows. I haven’t driven one back to back to see how much of a difference it really makes.

Can anyone post a pic or 2 with the doors open and how those seals attach to the door itself?

Edit: looks like the LX has similar seals and they seem to attach with 3m tape.. can anyone confirm?

They attach via little yellow clips
