Potential Cross-Fitment Between LC250 and GX 550

Hi everyone,

I’m a Land Cruiser 250 owner and I also develop accessories for the LC250 platform. I’m joining the conversation today mainly to learn from this community and share a few observations we’ve gathered along the way.

Given the many similarities between the two models, a few GX 550 owners recently reached out to us to explore whether certain products could be cross-compatible. Curiosity got the better of us, so we ran a few test fits and comparison measurements.

So far, we’ve found a direct cross-fitment on a few specific items:
D-pillar Grab Handles
Side Mirror Guards
Roof Rack

We’ll continue looking into the subtle structural details between the two platforms. If anyone is interested in trying out any of these products—or keen to help test fitment on your own GX 550 for the community—please feel free to let me know. I agree that these 3 items should fit with no issues on the GX. The sidesteps would also fit the OT/OT+ models and would fit the Prem/Lux models with some additional hardware.

I’d really like for you to develop the fender flares for the GX that are flared all the way down instead of the drastic taper that the LC250 has. They connect the same way but just have a different transition where the fender meets the bumper (Front & Rear). I think you’d sell a bunch of these if they are near the price point that the LC flares are going for.

Does anybody know if Overtrail OEM roof rack can be installed on a Land Cruiser 250. I am selling mine and I've been telling these are not compatible, but are they? Many thanks in advance!

I guess people have different taste... this looks tacky to me and doesnt really serve any purpose.

It’s not to my taste either, as with the plastic pieces on the hood. Don’t get me wrong - I’m a big fan of the aesthetics of hood stripes, for example, on sports cars, but as with Earth, these don’t capture me.

And for me the d-pillar handle is not directly over the rear tire (where a hand hold would be useful). And just far from the tail to not be of use climbing onto the rear step.

That said, it’s fun to see these different approaches to suiting up the GX. I’m sure there are some who would find these modifications welcome additions.

For development - Places where it would be nice to have handholds on the OEM rack - at a reasonable price.

That being said, the honest truth is many are swapping out to an aftermarket rack system that offers these adjuncts.

Also I need to see value in an add on.. if I’m paying $900 for a feature- it either has to be add a serious new look or use.

I’m 6 ft with long arms - but i typically use a short ladder or clamber up on top of the rear wheel when accessing the roof to clean.

I suspect this may not be a direct crossover fit - but, if you bring to market GX550 Overtrail wider fender flares at the same price point as your current LC250’s offering I’d be interested. A more reasonably priced alternative to NYTOP’s offering.

@plomor_mods Saw your post on the LC forums and I’m glad the GX doesn’t have the same issue the LC has with the front fender/bumper.

This gives me hope that your team will be able to go full flare with the design.

Given issues like tooling, we'll likely switch manufacturing processes for the GX wheel arch flares. Still waiting on final confirmation for the rest...
