My OT+ has 13.8k miles on it - just dropped by for the 15k service and was told I need 2 new tires. A bit concerned since I’ve had the tires rotated twice and aligned since I’ve owned the car. Anyone else have this issue?

Mine are the Toyo Open Country.

These tires were never going to last long since they don't have as much tread as normal Toyos. 25K is probably long life for them with shorter depending on vehicle and driving habits. How much tread do you have on those 2 needing replaced? Some shops will make you think your driving on bald tires when you hit 5/32. Wear bars are at 2/32. I try not to go that long, but I also don't go by just what the people trying to sell me something say.

I'm planning to replace in the 15-20K range if they go that long.

Concur. I replaced mine at 15-16k on my '24 and they had some meat left but not enough for a decent winter. There are threads and comments elsewhere, but the OEM tires are NOT retail Toyo Open Country. I believe they are a softer compound and are definitely shallower tread. All to improve the stock ride.

I went with Duratrac RT's and they were great. This next time around on my '26 I may go to something not E-rated based on how I'm using the truck. The ride was remarkably good, but something in a lighter tire would work just as well if not better for me. I'd replace all 4 at winter.

edit: see you're in SoCal so winter may not matter as much. But I'd run them to the wear marks and replace all 4 then.... Also, do some research about upping the tire size a bit. My '24 looked so much better with a little more rubber and my '26 has a LOT of room to fill when the time comes.

I used it as an opportunity to upgrade to a real tire.
The tires that come with the car are just good enough for instagram car testing influencers to show it can climb a hill.
If you actually offroad, get the E rated or anything C rated or higher.
If you don't offroad but want the looks, there are some great AT tires that would look ok but be MUCH better on the highway. Your MPG, comfort and noise levels will be significantly better.

I’ve opened a car with Lexus NA since the tires have been rotated twice and the care aligned not long ago. Dealer could find no reason the tires would be worn.

I’ll post here what Lexus says - not holding my breath though…..

I view OEM tires as starter tires as every vehicle needs them but rarely are they my preferred tire. For what they are they’re fine.

Tires off a new car - especially a Lexus - should last more than 13K
What depth are they?

OEM tires are throw away tires. Half the vehicles I’ve owned weren’t driven off the lot on them. 15K is fine for what they are. Had a BMW that never went more than 15K on any tires.
They’re fine for what they are. Not even on my list of things that concern me.

Just go buy the tires you want and ditch the OEM tires.

Don’t agree at all. In my 40 years of buying Mercedes, Porsche, and BMW - this is a first and goes against my perception of what a Lexus is.

I replaced all 4 of mine at 12K miles. With rotations I expected a tread life of 20K - 25K miles max. I was on muddy spring trails with my son in his Tacoma (Falken AT3s tires) and noted how quickly my factory Toyo’s filled with mud and then slid around compared to his AT3s.

So I went with Falken AT4s (285/70-18 in C load/LT rated) and got much better clearing and performance in muddy conditions. They also ride worse (almost 20lb heavier per tire), cost me 1 - 2 MPG and are moderately noisier. They are wearing like iron and I fully expect 50K service life. I will replace them prior to wear out if a lighter (55lb) and comparable (34” with 18 wheel) becomes available.

The Lexus OEM Toyo AT-III have less tread depth than the same sized AT-III sold via retail channels. This makes them lighter for better ride. I’m also convinced they are much softer compound to make them quieter. All part of the game.

You have a Lexus billy goat w/ full time 4WD on a frame based vehicle w/ cheap tires. That’s not going to give the same ride or provide same tire life as a monocoque chassis MB or BMW SUV with AWD. Reality check is your OE tires are not going to last as long as new retail tires. Everyone accelerates, drives & takes turns different, so don’t even argue you only drove to church on Sundays for 13K miles & now they’re slick. Get 15-20K miles & you got your moneys worth. Retail versions should safely go 20K-30K. If you’re driving to 45K you’ve probably added 30-50% in your stopping distance. Not too smart.

i dunno why all this second guessing.
the OEM tires were literally created for this specific car by Toyo. 33" AT3 116H didn't exist prior to the GX550. there was no use case for a Toyo A/T tire rated for 130MPH (H), definitely not a low-rolling resistance one.
the top speed of the GX550 is 115MPH, so they had to make a tire that would satisfy both the car, the EPA and the offroad influencers / youtubers.
seems like many of us don't go 130MPH, don't care as much about the EPA, and focus on a solid reliable tire that matches our personal habits, I think it's an overall reasonable compromise that gets us a good enough tire until we figure out how we want to customize the car to personal taste.
even the Lux model tires are a compromise between the 20"/22" "for looks" versus ride quality, but I think that market segment is already very well established and lexus had a much easier time finding a Japanese tire in that category that keeps most folks happy.
