We all know the fuel tank on the GX 550 is small, now we can add a rear tyre mount via tow hitch to the GX and we should then be able to purchase the 30 litre additional tank they use on the new Prado (LC 250) platform which takes the space of the under vehicle wheel mount. Together the two fuel tanks would provide a total of 110 litre fuel capacity. Check it out:

Just to add TJM here in Australia do a similar rear bar setup for LC 300 but it replaces the OEM rear bumper so not as easy to install as the hitch option.

Nice find Jrox. I'm also in Sydney and would definitely love one of the dirtcom trail swings. Lucky they make them in left-hand swing! I've emailed them to ask if they're willing to ship to Australia, so we'll see what the answer is. Might be easier to ship a few of them in one order?

Yeah, just the risk of collision and what it means with petrol on the rear.

I am going to wait a bit to see what else hits the market, now the Prado is released I think we will find more options here in Australia to save you some money on the freight. I see they just released a Rhino Rack system that fits the GX, it was mentioned on this build video:

Here in the states I got the Rigd Ultraswing to carry the tire, propane tank, tire bag, and 20 liter fuel/water.

Plan to add the LRA aux tank whenever that comes out.

Mate that looks killer. Is that a 35" tyre? Generally how do you find having the tyre mounted back there, is it annoying not being able to use the rear view camera? I'm considering mounting the tyre back there as a daily drive.

Yes, Toyo 35/10.5R17 C Load. I have a Wolfbox digital rearview camera that takes care of the blocked view from the OEM camera. The camera is mounted on the swing which jitters when going over bumps and such but works well when backing up.
