I can't believe there's not already a 20 page debate, settled by Amsoil every 5,000 miles. I'm kicking myself for waiting 9,500 miles on the first one and stepping up the maintenance. I currently run Castrol Euro full syn on the wife's Audi, and ran Redline on my Tahoe to 230k before I sold it.

I'm kind of on the fence between the Amsoil SS package, or Castrol Edge EP and the stock filter. I like to get on the gas and do probably 600 miles of dirt road a year. Does anyone trust these top top tier oils on 10,000 mile intervals? Or just do it every 5-7k and have the peace of mind?

Or get what's cheapest at Walmart and do it every 5? Curious about people's thoughts.

Amsoil every 5000 miles 😛

Also, your car will blow up. Should be running 20w60. Make sure you only run fram oil filters and k&n air filters - they're the best quality. Scotty Kilmer said....

I had to shitpost when you gave me the chance, man.

But more seriously, I'm running Mobil 1 esp 0w30 with genuine Toyota oil filters. I'm hoping the high HTHS of that oil will help give more safety net while towing, especially in summer. Plus it's at my local Walmart.

I run and recommend 5k oil change intervals to mitigate sludge buildup and carbon deposits in these intricate, high heat engines.

I take a 'stick to the specs' approach. If the specs say use an ILSAC GF-6A multi-grade engine oil, with a Viscosity of 0W-20, then I stick with that*, I see this as 'don't over think it.'

So far I've purchased oil, filters and gaskets at one Toyota dealer and one Lexus dealer. The Lexus dealer had better prices. I plan to keep doing this.*

Likewise if the specs say 'use unleaded gasoline with 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher' then I do that, too.

As for mileage or time intervals, I will do better than the specs. I will have 10k oil changes done at a dealer and I will do oil changes at 5k miles.

The first 10k miles are an exception, I have already done an oil change at 500 miles and 1000 miles, and will do again at 2.5k and 5k miles. My main reason for this is I want to look at samples and see the lab analysis numbers trend as expected. It's a peace of mind thing for me.

*At least for the base warranty period.
