Any notes on Imogene in a stock GX? I have a stock '26 OT, may be up in that area early August, and would like to drive it (or similar). I have a couple of hurdles—first is watching some videos it looks like the GX approach angle could be an annoyance and the second is whether or not my family is up for the ride.
I only did it in the older 470 which had 2” lift on it.
Definitely check conditions before you go. It turns out the rain/hail I reported on cinnamon pass ended up being rather serious. Imogene is currently closed as of that rain. Hwy 550 (oh btw I think maybe this had to do with Lexus and the naming of the truck lol) was closed between Ouray and Silverton due to a huge mudslide. That and several other trails I think I heard engineer closed, Ophir and black bear as well. Of course it’s Colorado and as the saying goes if you don’t like the weather wait 5 minutes but I would check before you go.
But Imogene is an amazing trail I got this shot there back in 2019
When the weather is good, you can drive right up & down Imogene and Black Bear. Just check the local info before and also monitor the weather radar. The Bear definitely has the pucker factor on the way down into Telluride.

On Wednesday after we completed our trip to Engineer I dropped my nephew at their family RV in Silverton and we made our way back to Ouray via US-550 as it was raining. As we neared Ouray the rocks started coming down taking out the windshield, sunroof, rear glass on passenger side as well as causing dents/paint chips.
We taped up the broken glass to make the trip home. With US 550 still closed Friday morning we made the trip to Silverton via Telluride because we needed to retrieve my son’s DT175 from my brother’s RV site.
In the 120F heat in Mojave the duct tape adhesive started giving up so we fortunately found some Gorilla heavy duty clear and could apply that over the duct tape and made it home without sending glass shards at others.
For the drive home the dynamic cruise, lane keeping assist were all disabled due to the impact near the camera/tape covering the hole.
So, quite the adventure. My GX goes into the body shop Tuesday morning for repairs.

Yes, we had a great time, yes we will go back next year for another family trip. My brother’s family is in Iowa, we are in So Cal so we historically met up in Moab. Moab is awesome, but Ouray/Silverton is fantastic.
In future if it is extreme rain on US-550 like Wednesday then we will just stay put and keep off US-550 until the extreme rain stops.
In talking to one of the local Ouray fire volunteers he shared there ended up being 7 rockslides on US-550.
We got lucky. A few minutes earlier and we wouldn’t have any damage. A few minutes later we may have gotten a bowling-ball sized rock through the windshield. Extremely stressful to suddenly be in the midst of rocks raining down with the rain, but no one was hurt. GX can be fixed.

I’ve never tried to de-chalk a chalk bag before….it doesn’t like to be cleaned.
We recently returned from our trip—thanks for the notes on the passes. After some easy trails in Wyoming and Moab, I have learned my family is not keen on off-road driving and decided not to drive Imogene. We did stay in Ouray for an evening and drive down 550 on the way out—I really look forward to getting back there to do the various trails in the area.
I recently returned from a road trip, and this seems like the best place to fit this post. We went up to Yellowstone and Grand Teton from Central Texas via Colorado and back down through Utah with a stops at Moab and Ouray. Roughly 3700 miles covered and enough to push the GX past the 5k mile service mark. I felt the truck did really well given the various roads, weather, and small amount of off-road trails we took. I was pretty satisfied with the 20.3mpg averaged across the trip (according to the OBC). Did have a few small hiccups—somewhere south of Colorado Springs, the dash completely blacked out and reset. Not long after that, a massive rock was chucked over the car in front of me and landed squarely on the windscreen giving it a ~3" starburst. Thankfully I bought the glass coverage from the dealer so fingers crossed that is not an issue.
Both my kid and partner get motion sickness and I learned trails don't sit well with them. They appreciate the access to land it provides, but it's still tough for 'em even with Dramamine. They did manage to stick it through some trails in Wyoming and Hurrah Pass in Moab. Hopefully I'll be able to make it back out to Moab and the San Jaun range for some adventure with some friends. That, and I would love visiting Wyoming again for many different reasons.
My takeaways for the GX really only involved one thing new. I need to find a way to wire in constant power while the truck is in drive. We took a fridge/freezer that I picked up from BougeRV (Rocky 3.0), but without a way to continuously power it while driving, I had to pull the battery and charge it overnight. That was fine when we were in Wyoming and it was cooler, but in the heat, it meant either moving the entire fridge or emptying it every night. Other than that, I still feel like I want a more refined damper setup that can offer a little more supple ride quality off-road but reign in some of the bounce on-road.

Now that's a work truck
Autobahn i3 Ceramic tint to driver and passenger windows. Went with 35% as that’s what I do with my other vehicles. Also the lowest allowed (with DR note in VA).
Pics are in direct sun and assume it will appear a bit darker on cloudy days and in the evening. Never used Autobahn before but installer was thorough and did a great job.
