The verminator is a lonely hunter. Tonight, we hunt!
groundskeeper vs vermin.jpg

I backed out my wife's GX today and found a pile of foam rubber bits in the driveway. So I open the hood and found where it's coming from. Little chew marks all over the cooling hose insulation on both sides and on the battery cable tape holding the sleeving.

I drove it for an hour and took it up on the freeway to get it hot. Made some power passes. Pulled into an Autozone for something and opened the hood. I started banging on all the plastic covers and BOOM! out comes Rotty the rotten Rat. He jumped out of the battery cover and over the back of the engine and down again. I banged all around. Nothing. Got home and got my compressor going and used a long air gun to blow out everywhere. Nothing. But I have a plan. My plan is for him to rot starting soon.

The gloves are off and the covers are off.
Two full rat sized old fashion's for him and two sticky pads. All of it baited with my world famous, irresistible pulled pork.

My wife had a rodent, or rodents, chew threw a cooling system hose on her ‘19 Volvo V90 Cross Country Ocean Race. Unfortunately, she got about five miles from our home when she received a coolant system warning and was forced to immediately pull over. Very frustrating and time consuming to deal with.

I hope that you get the perpetrator(s) responsible for the damage and that they don’t cause any more problems for you!

Happy hunting!!!

I feel your warpath anger! 😠
I got this little bastard after he set up shop in my old Trooper engine compartment. I was lucky, he had only torn up the hood insulation when I got him, no other damage.
Good Luck!!

My wife's Mercedes SUV alarm kept going off in the garage. Her windows were down, the garage was secured, and we couldn't figure out what was up. About the 3rd time the alarm went off and we checked on the car, my son thought he saw something move in the back seat. We're like yeah right and then a rat jumps on the dash from the passenger seat and runs across the dash and dives out the driver's open window and makes a run for it. He was setting off the interior motion alarm. I laid out poison munchies in all corners of the garage and found that fat little mofo dead in the side yard a few days later.

Unfortunately, no joy this morning. He must have either jumped completely off the vehicle at the auto part store (I don't think so), or headed to somewhere else on the underside to hide out. I found a few rat shits on the driveway. While it could have been from yesterday's air gun cleaning, I'm still suspicious.

So, I'm considering taking it to the dealer to have them inspect for serious damage to electrical and coolant systems and repair it. If it were my old truck or Jeep, I'd just do it myself. But this is brand new and it's my wife's. Comments?

I would most definitely have the dealer get it up in the air and evict that guy and check all systems. Can you imagine trying to chase down a chewed wire in this truck? There must be 1,000 miles of wire in these things.

Maybe change up your BBQ menu? 😅
Seriously though, use a combination of different bait foods..especially on the large sticky pads. Include some of the green and/or brownish poison treats, if your wife is okay with that.

Also, if you have any of those rechargeable, magnetic attaching, motion sensing lights that some of us have..place one underneath the engine. Place another underneath the hood..with hood just cracked open.
Then watch from your large window after dark, see if he’s still moving around.

If you have an OBD scanner like a Carista maybe run that to see if any strange codes, faults showing up.

Whether you go to the dealer or not, you still need to absolutely confirm you got him or he’s gone (hangin at Autozone).

And do another set of traps in the garage , he might be base camping in there! 😀

The wife wants the critter dead. She's no rat lover.

Well I will share my story. I live in Southern California and rodents are looking to our engines for warmth. I took my GX in for an oil change and they found a rodent’s nest, droppings, and urine stains. There were foot tracks on the engine cover too. To abate it cost $298. Dealer will clean up the mess, steam clean the entire engine bay, and put this banish solution on everything. It has a strong smell that repels the rodents. So far it’s been working. My friend who has a BMW said good thing you caught it early because the critters can cause thousands in damage.

Took my wife's GX into South Bay Lexus today. Same deal, $367.

It's all that fresh sweet plastic smell that they like. My old jeep and truck set in the same place. New car smell is rat attracting.

I put one of these under the hood of my GX and my wife's RAV4. We have to leave our cars parked outside while our home is being remodeled. It puts out an ultrasonic sound wave and lights that scare the vermin away. Hope your traps get them but once that's done this can help prevent more damage in the future.

We've been putting these fresh smelling Rodent Repellent sachets in the engine bays in all our cars now. They are not cheap and only last a month or so. I just keep adding new ones. Seems to be working to keep the turds off the engine covers. Cat may help if he lived in the garage or outside.
