Known GX550 issues in process on my GX550 OT+

Just a heads up that I just got my car back (after 10 days) with a huge list of issues resolved or documented to be resolved ASAP. I thought I would share here to potentially help others. I am pretty perfectionist with my cars, so just wanted them to review a lot. :)

1. Brakes - they made the awful scratching sound in reverse with <1000 miles on the car. A Lexus case was created and Lexus approved an updated brake assembly to be installed as replacement. (resolved!)
2. Hood flutter - this is a know issue on earlier GX500s and Lexus is working on a resolve, which will likely be a new hood replacement coming soon. This has been resolved on more recent produced GXs. Dealer thinks something will happen by end of year. (they are asking about how to replace my hood PPF wrap in the process)
3. Driver mirror vibration - at highway speeds the driver mirror vibrates a lot causing a disco ball effect when sun is behind you. (Driver side only). This is know and a replacement assembly is coming soon.
4. Programming windows down and walk-away features - This is just a preference, but they programmed the car so that holding the unlock on fob will roll windows down. They also updated rear gate to only go down after I walk away from the vehicle and not immediately when rear button pressed.
5. Key fob battery - both of my brand new key fob batteries were dead and I was getting "key not found" messages constantly. I didn't think a brand new key would have battery issues, so had them look at it. Turns out there was a large batch of 2024 vehicles (various models) that shipped with bad batteries. They replaced in both fobs and all is great now.
6. Rear seat heaters - on high, you could hardly feel warmth. They tested and had to adjust something and now they work much better.
7. ML Stereo producing almost no bass - I have posted before, but I have a support case open directly with a Case Manager at Lexus and they are still working on an enhancement to produce more bass sound. (no just mid) She updates me regularly but not resolve has been determined yet.

Hope this helps the community. I LOVE my GX so much and knew early production, first year models would have weird issues. This too shall pass...
Any updates on the Mark Levinson issue with no base?

I had my brake problems fixed over the summer.(I picked it up in May.) They tried to say if they couldn't repeat the problem they couldn't fix it. I fortunately had taken two videos of it squealing in reverse. I basically just said- hey this is your problem and I will leave this here until you resolve it. So they approved and replaced it. Have not had an issue since.

Interesting on the other issues. I will keep my eyes open for news on those. Also the upgraded stereo really does have hardly any base. My Subaru has a much better sound system. LOL

On item 6 - do you know what the dealer adjusted? Mine has been back to the dealer twice and they cant find any issue. What is even more annoying is that when I sit there as a test while my wife drives it is almost unnoticeable as even getting warm.

I’m not sure what they did, but it went from not feeling anything to very little on high. I could tell much when it was still 100 out in Texas. Still disappointed with them. My BMW would cook you on low.

Words matter, they don't deny it exists..they deny that it's a problem. ;)
Every car I've ever driven with an aluminum hood will flutter at times due to wind and speed, but they don't fly off so it's not a problem.
Mine also flutters. The day I purchased my vehicle I asked the manager if he was aware of this problem and he said no don’t these individuals review the comment sections on these informative platforms like the one we’re on.

Ever since they fixed mine, it’s been perfect. Make them resolve. It took a week in the body shop

Can you share what dealership acknowledged the hood flutter? Mine is really bad and my dealership and Lexus corporate denied knowing of any hood flutter issues!
I just sent this list to my dealer (I pick up my lux + on Saturday) and he said they haven’t heard about any of these issues! 🙄

I told him that’s ridiculous if so because thousands of people have had these issues and it’s documented all over on this forum. I told them I wanted all fixes done BEFORE I pick my car up. I didn’t pay 90K for this suv to have to deal with a laundry list of malfunctions. I justified the price because Lexus/Toyota is a brand known for reliability. I hate the process of buying new vehicles - for this exact reason, which is why I keep them longer than most and therefore buy for reliability.

I’m sure he’s super annoyed with me, but frankly, it’s not our job to keep them informed on the service fixes/updates they need to be proactively doing. We live 3.5 hours from the closest dealer. I don’t think it’s too much to ask to have known issues fixed beforehand.

I’m also going to ask them to put in writing that the “melting” on the body and windshield cracking issue will be covered under my warranty if they happen. If you haven’t heard of these issues there are threads on them as well and Lexus is not covering them under warranty.

I just sent this list to my dealer (I pick up my lux + on Saturday) and reminded him about the massaging seat issue, paint melting, transmission, and windshield cracking issues I’ve already alerted him to and requested all are fixed before I pick up. He told me they haven’t heard of ANY of these issues! 🙄 it’s ridiculous and not our job to keep them informed/ updated on the KNOWN issues with their new cars. I live 3.5 hours from our closest dealer so it’s not convenient AT ALL to resolve things like this. I don’t know when my car was manufactured, but likely before these issues were fixed because it was on the ship on its way here in late October.

Sounds like a bit of an overreaction as a lot of units have zero issues. Maybe negotiate a test drive or ask to go on the PDI with the tech?

Please show us your collected data on the "thousands" of people you reference with these issues.

Paint melting? Show us what that's about. Pervasive windshield cracking? How many?

If you want issues addressed, report it to your dealer. Make sure they can reproduce it. If they can't resolve, open a case with Lexus directly. Don't expect social/forum posts to make a difference. It's the same process with virtually all manufacturers.

Sounds like you should get a different car that can be serviced where you live. You’re going to be told to take it or leave it. If you don’t buy the car there’s another guy on a waitlist to take your spot.

Your demands are not normal and I’m surprised they are even still dealing with you.
