Brakes jerk or lock up when coming to a slow stop

I saw someone post it a while back but wanted to see if anybody has had this happen now that there’s more GX out there.

It’s annoying, feels like being rear-ended every time I come to a slow stop. Doesn’t happen when I have to stop suddenly.

A friend said it could be a rotor problem but this soon? I just hit 4,500 miles.

I have the same experience however it’s not the brakes I think, it’s the transmission shifting down to 1st gear late or sometimes when it comes to complete stop.

Its likely your transmission and not brakes. Slowing down to 1-3 MPH, my transmission noticeably hard shifts down to first gear causing what feels like a thud/jerk. Is what you’re feeling consistent with what is discussed in the other thread mentioned above?

I had a very weird (but great) experience after I took it in for service.

Basically they did the 5,000 mile checkup and called me to say the brake/transmission issue couldn’t be replicated. They asked if I could take it for a test drive with them to pinpoint the problem.

I did and it was gone, not happening anymore. I didn’t understand why or how it was fixed. They said all they did was the 5k service which included tire rotation.

So I guess it’s fixed. I’m happy but confused. Glad it’s gone.

I'm baffled by all of the nagging issues with the GX, yet I haven't seen anywhere near as many issues with the new LC 250. What is going on at Lexus?

That’s why I opted for the 10yr/100k mile extended warranty. 1st model year will always have more issues. I luckily haven’t had any issues so far at 900 miles in, but it’s a small price to pay for the security in my opinion.

OK. And Toyota apparently got theirs right and Lexus fumbled?
I don’t own a LC, but your post got me curious so i went to toyota LC problems forum and it looks like they suffer similar problems with squealing breaks and tranny issues. See link below:

Prob not related but have you turned off the ‘Braking Assist’ in Settings? I remember it being super jerky with this setting on. Just a thought

Just had this happen for the first time today (13K miles). Was coming to a stop and it felt like a real hard downshift. I've had hard downshifts before in this vehicle, but this was noticeably wrong. Drove it around afterward, everything seems fine. Not sure if it was just a fluke or what. I also had the Hold feature on (I usually don't) and I kind of wonder if it was engaging too early or something. Still, whatever it was was hard enough to be disconcerting. The last time I felt a tranny act like that it was on its way out.

I just brought my luxury + into the dealer today for this issue. I was told that it is a “known issue” by Lexus and that they are trying to figure out how to address it- whatever that means. The mechanic said they wouldn’t tell them exactly what the problem is- although I got the feeling he knew but wasn’t supposed to share it with me- he said that Lexus is deciding whether to put in a shaft or (and I don’t remember exactly what he said as it was a phone call and he wasn’t there when I went back in) eos (?) system. Seems like a transmission issue to me but he said they couldn’t do anything today and they’d let me know when Lexus decides how to proceed. He said it was safe to drive and that it was more of an annoyance. If anyone else has any info I’d love to hear.

ask dealer for a TCM reset. I disconnected my battery this evening and will see if it it fixes itself in the morning.

Confirmed that disconnecting the negative terminal for 30 min fixes (Could be shorter but I wasn't in a rush) the clunky 2 -> 1 shift when stopping. All my dash and settings remained intact. Let's see how long it lasts. It got clunky after about 6,000 miles.
