I began searching for a GX in May 2025 here in Texas and reached out to 4–5 local dealerships. Unfortunately, the wait time for an incoming unit with my preferred configuration was still 8–12 months. In June, I expanded my search out of state and ended up placing a deposit with a Lexus dealership in New Jersey. I finally picked up this beautiful GX—an out-of-town build with the moonroof deleted and no dealer-installed options (DIO). Couldn’t be happier!

Very nice. Just recently picked up my OT+ in Earth color after an 11 month wait.
Your GX is only the 2nd one I have seen with the sunroof delete option.

If Lexus built it the way you want it... they'd lose money but have all but that little group of people that are so hung up on getting exactly what they want, how they want it and when they want it. This is why it's nice to have choices of other brands that are willing to make less profit to make each individual happy.

I kind of agree... that you wrote your response in a way that makes you sound pretty entitled in telling them how horrible they are, how wealthy you are and they won't survive without you.

Have fun waiting 12-18 months for your spec Porsche. :)

When the hotcakes are flyin' off the griddle, ain't no one cares how you want yours cooked.

We were deciding between a 2026 X5 xDrive40i vs the GX550 at the time. Ended up going with the X5 and ordered it exactly the way we wanted it. It arrived about 2 months after ordering - in June 2025.

We were also looking at half ton pickups (Tundra, F150, and GMC Sierra 1500s) at the same time as well. Couldn't order the Tundra with a 6.5 foot bed and Toyota still hasn't resolved the problems with their 3.4L V6 turbo that is also used in the GX550. GM apparently can't make a NA V8 engine these days either. We ended up ordering a 2025 F150 Lariat with the 5.0L Coyote and the 6.5 ft. bed and picked it up in July 2025.

With the current pricing of new vehicles, I expect to be able to order a car exactly the way I want it out of principle.

It seemed like Lexus is purposely constraining supply. BMW sells about 60,000-80,000 X5s per year while Lexus sells about 30,000 GX550s per year. I think if Lexus tripled its production of GX550s, we'd see some sitting on the lots. There are only a finite number of buyers that can purchase at those price points.

Don't forget, there are about another 30,000 LC250 sold under Toyota which were produced from the same factory and even share part of the production line. My understanding is that the although Tahara factory has a pretty high capacity, the LC250 (LC and GX) production were still limited somewhat.
Another situation people may not be aware, a fair number of GXs that were for NA market were purchased and exported overseas. Someone purchased the vehicle in full price and then exported immediately. A practice Toyota frowned upon, but legal, at least in Canada. I feel some of the vehicles were waiting to be exported before even show up on dealer's lot.

When I bought my GX in the GTA area my dealer made me promise not to resell it (nothing legal), it was a cash deal and that raised some redflags on their end. They said if I resold it Lexus would strangle their allocation of GX's.

I had to sign a no export agreement too. Likely unenforceable but as an out of state, cash buyer, I understand.
