GX CoolBox Removal (1 Viewer)

Also thought I would throw this out to anyone who may also be a fan of bourbon. I picked up a bottle of Ironroot Harbinger after getting to taste it at Total Wine this past weekend. It's a local distillery in Denison, TX, about 30 miles from me. It's the first non-Kentucky bourbon that I've tasted and really like.

Will need to look for it next time! I visited Andalusia out in Blanco and liked their Stryker so much I grabbed a bottle. I'm not usually a fan of smokey whiskey but this one is subtle.

I am so disappointed that you can’t seem to get these cars without a cool box. It is a complete waste of needed storage base. I will never use the cool feature.

This requires a deeper explanation. It definitely tripped me up when I was in the 'talk to several different dealers' phase of purchasing.

The only trim line with a Cool Box that is not a removable option is the Luxury +, e.g., it's part of the "+" trim on a Lux and it cannot be removed.

For OT and OT+ it is an add-on option however we all know how this works. For those new here, how this works is Lexus loves to pile on the factory installed options, and thereby jack up the price, and in turn tell the dealers here's what you are getting be quiet and accept it.

For Lux, Prem and Prem+ a Cool Box is not an add-on option so those three trims will never have it. Reference for this is page 43 of the 2025 MY brochure, where all the features and possible options are listed.

That a Cool Box and motorized running boards were not removable turned me off to a Lux +.

IME talking to several different dealers, I picked up that many (not all but most) of the salespeople did not readily know this distinction. I'm sure they could have looked it up fairly quickly, because that's a core thing of what they do. However, during initial walk-in-the-door discussions with a sales guy (or gal) they mostly brushed it aside. Example, Me: "I'm interested in a new GX500. I'll take a Luxury+ if you can get one without a cool box, and without ...". Sales person: "We'll try but we don't get to select the options...". The tell was not one of the sales people ever got in touch after those initial discussions to clarify to say "You can't remove a Cool Box from a Lux+ trim."

Somewhere in my process of talking to different dealers I picked from on here the distinction for Cool Box options, and how the 2025 MY brochure is the source of truth. No matter what a sales guy says or doesn't say.
