Our 2024 Premium Plus was stolen from our driveway in Houston a few weeks ago. Since then, a friend’s GX550 was also stolen, and I’ve seen reports of two more thefts on NextDoor. The police officer who handled our case mentioned they’ve seen a significant increase in GX550 and Land Cruiser thefts this year. The only silver lining is that the insurance payout was surprisingly strong, thanks to the GX’s continued high demand and low depreciation.

Be careful out there! Hopefully Lexus is taking steps to make these vehicles more difficult to steal in the future.

For sure it’s the RFID keys. Thieves use a large loop antenna to pick up your key in the house and retransmit it to the vehicle. Look it up it’s common.

Only way to reset this is to store your keys in a metal box with a lid. Wrap them in foil or RFID bag. Btw most bags are crap and do not work. A cookie tin works awesome. Don’t forget your credit card RFID in your wallet. Keys and wallet need to be in before heading to bed.

Major bummer. Assuming parked in carport or open garage when theft occurred? Or was this off home premise?

Thanks! I’m thinking an Altoids tin is the right size.

Yes, the officer said it was likely the keyfob signal. Our keys are now stored in a Faraday box when not in use. It was in a carport.
