Is everyone paying MSRP for their GX 550's (2 Viewers)

What were the fees? I remember paying some kind of processing fee or some other miscellaneous fee, but it wasn't much so I didn't pay much attention to it. Maybe it just seemed like MSRP to me since a couple of the other dealers I talked to had packages and stuff added that totaled thousands..
I scribbled down $875, made up of two fees one of which was a doc fee. So yes, it's not much but still it's something they sneak in. This was about 3 or 4 months ago.

No matter, they seemed OK to deal with. They describe themselves as a high volume dealership. I asked about shipping (I said I read they do that), even though I'm within reasonable drive distance, they said yes we do it, regular shippers we work with etc. They seemed to have no hesitation if shipping was to be part of a purchase.

Sounds right..I prob paid it and didn't think twice about it. The below from upthread is the kinda stuff I was sensitive to since I also ran into this a couple of places so LoLV's fees seemed about the best I was going to do. It was an out of state purchase for me as well. In an ironic twist of fate, Enterprise screwed up and gave me my one way car rental for free so that chopped the fees down quite a bit.. :p

That is great to hear. I tried buying one off the lot from that dealer back in March but they wanted additional $5k for interior/exterior spray on protection and another $5k for PPF. Wouldn't sell it any other way. Maybe they figured I was desperate as I was calling from out of state.

They seemed ok to me, but they definitely did seem "high volume". When I picked up I think my salesperson told me she had 13 cars getting picked up that morning and that was pretty typical for a Saturday. The dealership was much larger and nicer than my local dealerships.

I posted the below in another thread, which kind of rubbed me the wrong way, but these trucks are in such short supply that it was take it given a slight agitation for "MSRP + a fee or two" or continue to wait on my local dealer's waiting list with no ETA.

I think you are spot on in that there is a demand problem that I didn't fully appreciate until I tried to buy bought one. I had wired the dealer a deposit and planned to come up in a couple days, but then had something come up that might have pushed it back a week. I texted my salesperson and she said they "couldn't hold a GX for a week" implying that if I delayed I would not be able to buy the truck. Luckily my schedule worked out and I wired the remainder and drove up on schedule, but I was really surprised they wouldn't even keep a paid for truck sitting around for an extra week waiting for me to pick it up. Given that and what I have read on this forum I feel lucky to have only paid MSRP.

Well, after an 11 month wait, I finally got my GX 550 OT+ Earth/Black yesterday. Was charged MSRP + FIO & PIO addons I actually wanted. There was an additional "Dealer Document Fee" which was reasonable so I didn't have a problem with that.
Now all I have to do is figure out how to run all the bells and whistles in this thing.

Here is an excellent video for that purpose . Expand the description box and every feature in the vid is bookmarked, you can jump right to whatever you want.

Were it not for this video I would have passed on a GX -- and now be looking for something else. The woman in the video who put this together answered all kinds of details that salesmen I talked to stumbled with or were outright unable to answer.

^^^ this x1000. She also has a quick reference video that is shorter, although still not short enough for my wife to want to watch it.

SteelWorker, Thanks for the reply. I have been watching Melissa on and off for several months now. She has been a great resource. The technical advisor at my dealer in New England actually talks to her often. But there is no substitute for getting in there and pushing the buttons yourself :) Just watched her short tutorial on programing a garage door opener.🚙

July 2024 - Premium plus nori green - MSRP
July 2025 - Premium plus nori green - MSRP

Just talk to sales and have them keep you updated. They want these units to move. If they dont move, they wont receive additional allocations (thats what I heard)

Where are you seeing a Nori Green Premium Plus for MSRP?

Norcal. Check car gurus and lexus websites to see what inventory is coming in. These units came in with market adjustments of $5000. It wasnt sold for the first week. Lexus dealership had to move them to receive additional units. Salesman called me to "apply" discount for msrp.

MSRP end of May, premium plus, no add ons or stupid doc fee, etc. I doubt anyone is getting below MSRP for awhile there is still long waitlists/demand and low allocations. Especially if you’re waiting on a premium plus trim.

I ended up paying sticker + an $895 document fee, so sticker + $895 + tax + state tag fee + state warranty rights fee + state title fee. They were planning on tinting the windows. However, I told them that my wife has a hard time seeing at night, so she can't have a vehicle with tinted windows.

When talking with my sales representative, I asked him about the GX550 backlog. He said that their wait list is pretty much gone now. Once they start appearing on the lots in decent numbers, the price will become more negotiable.

There was an additional "Dealer Document Fee" which was reasonable so I didn't have a problem with that.
The problem that I have with it is that it's disingenuous. The documentation fees are simply adjustments to the price of the vehicle, which is why they are taxable. It's just become so common that people accept it as part of the process. Dealers like to claim that it's not negotiable, but it really is along with the entire price of the vehicle. They preprint the documentation fee on the forms to make people think that they can't change it, but they really can. I've purchased two vehicles at invoice minus the documentation fee plus the documentation fee that was preprinted on the form. In other words, I purchased them at invoice without a documentation fee. It all comes down to the leverage that you have in the negotiations. I didn't have much at all with my wife's new GX550, so just had to suck it up and pay sticker + $895.

I paid MSRP + a $599 doc fee. I have seen as low as MSRP + $99 doc fee, but they had $2-3k in PIO. (Also, of course, have talked to dealers with everything from $3k GPS trackers to $5k protection packages etc.) The dealer I chose gave me complete control over PIO, so I didn't end up with the roof rack or other items that offered little to no value to me.

The control over PIO is a key point. It's one of the very few, if not the only way you have to choose your options, however narrow and limited those options might be.

Taking the well discussed (on here) ideas that dealers cannot specify anything whatsoever as to a factory build spec, and dealers who sell more GXs get more GXs allocated, I have seen the high volume dealers have models with more rather than fewer POIs -- CatTrack exhaust at $2.3k, roof rack at $1.4k, cross bars at $450, body side mouldings, paint protection film, floor liner packages, cargo net packages the list goes on. Again unique to the high volume dealers, they will subtly say "we'll try and get those removed 'at the port' but we can't guarantee it. You know those port guys, they're in a world of their own...".

When a car salesman, selling an in demand model says "I'll try to do X to reduce your cost but I can't guarantee it" what do you think is going to happen?

I'm gonna guess some of these PIO options are high profit margin, and under-the-covers it's one of the few ways the dealers can sneak something in on high demand models. And still call themselves 'high volume, we sell at MSRP and don't negotiate price.'

Mine was purchased at MSRP at Longo Lexus. Longo only sells at MSRP or below. 24 OT+.

That's where I ended up getting mine after about 6 months of searching as all the dealers within 500 miles of me were charging 5-10k over MSRP, loading the vehicle with all sorts of unneeded options (take it or leave it mentality), and adding all sorts of dealer extras (e.g. paint protection, lo-jack, ppf, etc., etc. and really going the extra mile to squeeze every last dime out of their customers). I don't play that..the way I see it, they need ME...I don't need them. I won't do business EVER with those that "take advantage" of customers. That all being said, Longo Lexus was straight forward, easy to work with, etc. I had to place a $500 deposit and let them know my trim level and interior color choice. When they got that allocation, and my name was next on that particular wait list, they contacted me and asked if I wanted it, etc. I was able to remove most unneeded options and tweak the build for the most part. It was a great transaction....and I got the vehicle at MSRP without one single "add on". I recommend Longo Lexus in El Monte, CA if you are in need!

I see you're in Sacramento. Did you fly down and drive the car all the way back?
