Just installed one. Works great, well worth the $50, and took < 5 minutes to install. Quick and cheap upgrade that everyone should consider. Should have come this way from the factory!

I bought mine off Amazon and dirt works great - I connected mine to the existing power cable versus running wire from the rear jack area that some have had to do

Can you explain further? Why would one be able to do it this simply, but not others?

There are two kits on Amazon - with and without a power latch feature. Sometimes it's a crap shoot as to what you get. I connected mine to the power lead off the power latch and it negated having to use their power wire which you have to pull all the interior panels off the door and trim to reach. The same is true for the two rear lights you can add to the tailgate - you connect to the existing power.

This one includes a wiring adapter and everything you need to install it with no cutting, drilling, velcro at all - it clips perfectly into a cover you remove on the hatch, and it's truly plug and play. Plus it automatically turns off when the door closes.

Get the LandBully kit - it's plug and play, plus it turns off when the door closes.

This kit stemmed off product development on the LC250 (Prado). The 1958 version doesn't have a powered liftgate and required a cumbersome way to get power for the light. A product was later developed to get power from the tailgate switch and the GX was the beneficiary of that.

Now they have 2 options when you buy (powered liftgate and non-powered). Some sellers sell lights for one or the other, some sell kits that contain both sets of wiring.

Score!

I also like that the LandBully version is dimmable.

There are about a dozen vendors all selling the same light which is made in some dark factory in China...or brightly lit when they are all testing them. The mark-up is insane - a $50 light that probably costs less than $0.50

Just saw this thread - I just posted pictures in my build thread. These lights (from wherever you get them) are worth the money and installation work.

In the photos below I have the single center-mount hatch light that Land Bully sells plus I have the two outer lights that are in the bottom of the tailgate hatch so the 2 lights aim almost straight rearward when the hatch is up.

They really are super lights - great if you are ever opening the hatch at night and worry about cars not seeing you. The Lexus lighting engineers were snoozing on this - what is stock is embarrassing. Very easy to install.

Can someone provide an amazon link (powered liftgate)? My search for "lexus gx550 rear hatch light" is not working so well.

This is the one I bought on amazon - works great - land bully is just another brand name buying the same light in china

That's a MUCH more intrusive installation than the LandBully. Very different product. And a 2.1 rating. Do yourself a favor and get the LandBully version. No need to practically dismantle the hatch and risk breaking a panel clip.
