Be very cautious in filling the LRA. One is supposed to stop when the pump releases, othersie the charcoal canister will overfill and then the car will throw codes and potentially throw it into limp mode. The canister sia bout $1,000 plus install and would not be covered by warranty due tot he install of the LRA.

Looks like the LRA 24 gal from the LC 250 fits the GX with a caveat. The OEM resonator must be replaced with AFE Power 49-46081. So either aux tank requires exhaust modification.
Sorry for the delay, it takes a bit to go through the full 2 tanks now. Just got 450 miles total range and am sure I could get 500 if I was doing more highway driving and was easier on the throttle/sport mode.
Also I decided not to do a full fill up today and I was a little surprised that even though it's a dual fill, it fills the main tank completely first before filling the auxiliary tank. Maybe I was silly to think otherwise, but I had just assumed it would basically fill both tanks roughly equally at the same time. Kinda pleased about that.

Cool, will check those links out too and I will also search around. I have to think for a bit on whether or not 8 extra gallons is worth $2300. My gut tells me that my time for 38% less fuels stops (all else being equal) is worth the money. I'll have to run those number down over a 1 year period. edit: Would also be nice to see actual verification that this tank is truly 29 gallons.

Would like to solicit opinions from forum members for my scenario. Been waiting for the 17-gal LRA saddle aux fuel tank for a while. Was told the retail price at release is around $2,995. Let’s say there is a 20% discount during Black Friday so price would be $2,400. Install cost in Phoenix is $1,750 (10 hours at $175 per). Shipping fee is $295 so total estimated cost is $4,500 for best case scenario.
I currently have 3 Rotopax totaling 8 gal. I can add 8 gal more with purchase of one Wavian Jerry Can and one 3 gal Rotopax. Total cost of adding 8 gal is $200.
The additional gas is mainly for the Arctic trip next year. I have been able to manage frequent gas stops on long trips being that the best range is 260 miles with a full tank.
Question is would you spend $4,500 for convenience and fewer gas stops or suck it up and save money by pouring gas from gas cans with gas stops every 250 miles?

You bring up very good points - I'm leaning toward the LRA tank (the 24 gallon aux tank). Sad state of CA that we need to sneak out of state to have it installed.
Maybe it's just me - but I'd avoid any Chinese knock off tank. I'd rather pay more for a known brand/installer.

you offroad much? i'd like a closer look at all these after market tanks. Seem to hang lower than stock. Definitely the LRA one, not sure about this one that claims a built-in 5mm skid. Is the skid an actual skid or just the bottom part of the tank?
The Overtrail comes standard with a 4mm skid most everywhere and 1mm sheet metal under the gas tank. I hit the front 4mm skid on a rock and it is bent. Like beyond recognition. On a very mild trail my tire dropped of a small rock and between the suspension compressing and the low clearance of the front skid, it made a dent that's practically touching my front diff now. If it hit the tank, that 1mm sheet metal would rip like paper.
Im upgrading all the skids to 1/4" (>6mm) aluminum or steel.
If the skid on this tank is an actual skid and not just the bottom layer, and if it doesn't hang too low, I might consider. Otherwise, a jerrycan it is.

I would much rather have a aluminum/magnesium alloy tank than a aluminized steel tank. Aluminized steel will still rust at the welds sending rust into your fuel system. Not great for us folks in the States with ethanol blended fuel, which attracts more water from the air.
