Thanks for the invite to join the group! We picked up our new ’26 Atomic Silver w Black Onyx Overtrail on July 1st. Feeling fortunate only having to wait a little over a month from paying a deposit to getting it. Didn’t know anything about these vehicles until last summer when we started thinking about replacing our old reliable Toyota Avalon with an SUV of some type. We couldn't find any vehicles that interested us until we saw a new Land Cruiser while on vacation near Glacier NP and took a liking to it. Started researching it and discovered the GX550 with its stunning looks and twin turbo V6 rather than the hybrid-4. Fast forward to this May, when we got serious about purchasing one only to discover the well known challenges to such a desire. We landed on wanting an Incognito overtrail plus, but how to get one was the next thing to figure out. Luckily found a dealer with a used ’24 neb premium plus (asking original MSRP) to at least see in person and drive. Learned then how difficult it would be to get a specific trim and color. After scouring the internet and calling various dealers we just about gave up on the idea and were going to look further into a LC. Just then, received an email from the dealer with the used 24 that said they would be getting a new overtrail in Atomic Silver w Blk roof and it could be ours for a 1K deposit. They sent the specs on it and we decided to pull the trigger! Oh and btw, I am now in love with Atomic Silver!
We did succumb to the fact that we would be stuck with PIOs and DIOs which we didn’t want but felt it was the price to pay for getting a GX. Especially appreciative of the Lexus charging cables with two USB A cords that have no use in a 550. Oh and the Nitrogen filled tires that come with a vehicle which has a built in air compressor! I made the finance guy laugh at that one when I pointed it out. Got him to throw in all weather floor mats at least, lol.
This forum was key to researching the 550 regarding ownership experiences, trim differences and especially getting to see real photos of the different colors rather than the through the Lexus website, etc. Still trying to figure out all the nuances to driving with two profiles as well as the climate system but am getting there
A little bit about my wife and I. We are retired and live in Iowa. We enjoy traveling, good food, good beer and wine, camping (really glamping), watching sports, biking, and walking. I also love to golf and fish. Along with our new GX, we own a ’17 Red Mustang GT convertible and a Black ’20 Ford F450 dually to haul our fifth wheel camper (which we live in all winter on the Alabama Gulf Coast). Previously owned a '90 and '98 Nissan Pathfinder, '03 Honda Pilot and a '13 Honda Ridgeline, so we've had experience with both body on frame and unibody SUVs. This GX sort of reminds me of my old Pathfinders but obviously still very different.
The idea of off-roading was not the primary driver to wanting a GX overtrail. Just felt this trim with all its capabilities, its killer looks and the opportunity to get into a new hobby made the most sense for us.
Anyway, I’ve rambled enough, looking forward to continuing to learn and share more about our GX!
