Has anyone found a no-drill solution to mounting the front license plate? I've used Carbonio for other cars in the past, but reached out to them and they indicated they don't have anything that would fit the GX550 yet.

I was in contact with Sto n Sho about making a mount. I sent in some measurements for him to use the 2 holes on. the trim underneath the bumper.

Just don't put your front license plates on. Seems like Colorado has a bigger problem with non-registered vehicles anyways.

I am interested in what you end up finding though.

That’s my plan. I’ll roll with no front license plate until I have to.

Thanks, I'll reach out to them also - hadn't heard of them before

They're pretty aggressive at ticketing for missing front license plates if you park on Denver streets

I have been driving without a front lic plate in Texas for decades....never a problem....so far.
CO seems rather interesting, you can smoke weed...no problem! But, you better have your front license plate!!!?

I think the best solution is to make some type of S hook bracket that you can quickly slip on in between the slats on the front bumper. Some type of tab that will allow you to hold the plate 90 degrees to push forward and then drop it down flat to the bumper. If you forget and drive off with it, shouldn't fall out either. Anybody have a 3D printer to try it out?

I used a Cravenspeed Platypus - The Platypus License Plate Mount for Lexus GX 2nd gen URJ150 2010 to 2023

Good to know that fits, and beautiful truck!

I also heard back from the Carbonio folks mentioned in the original post and wound up ordering the mount from them. A "Nelson" replied to my submitted pictures with the snip below. It shipped today, so I'll take some pictures once it arrives.

We do indeed have a no-drill license plate mount that will fit the GX550, I have personally installed one myself on an identical GX550 as yours and can confirm fitment... We just haven't posted it on our website yet (but will be soon).
If you select the mount we offer for the Honda Accord, this will be the same mount that works on the GX550... It will attach the lower painted grille.

Here is the installation instructions to give you a better idea as to how this mount installs and looks:

Looks like you could use any generic plate mount plus a couple of offsets with a 5-6mm hole in them and a couple of zip ties, no? I could probably 3D print a one piece something or other that would work too. The test would be how it holds up at 100 mph.

This is an option in CA.

I just think the GX looks so much better without a plate.

I really like my Sly BOZZ bracket with leveler. It allowed me to offset the placement, which is what I prefer.

Got the Carbonio bracket installed and it looks good, but some notes. I installed it "upside down" because with the little nubs on it on top, the plate angled down and I didn't like how it looked. Upside down, they rested on the bumper, so I put some foam that came from an old elliptical mat between them and the bumper.

Bracket feels sturdy and didn't start to shake loose even after 3 hours on some fairly rough forest service road. I'll pull the plate in another week or so and see if the thumbscrews are still tight.

Bracket is metal and hardware seemed nice. Would work with four screw mounts, though my plate holder is only using two. Install took me a while trying to sort out the best fit. Also note that the little hooks that hold the backing pieces will stick out some once you cinch things tight. They still were below the plane of the mount though, so no problems.

I very much suggest you do one at a time and get a finger behind where the thumbscrew goes to hold them in place. I knocked one down in the bumper and finding my flexible magnet on a stick to retrieve it took longer than the rest of the install. The backing brackets are not magnetic themselves (though they are metal), but the sliding nut the thumbscrews screw into IS. I do wish the plate screws had an option to be in black like with the Sly kit though. Might order some black screws for front and back plates since the factory ones are silver too.

Thumbscrews were pretty easy to deal with, so the install was technically toolless. But you have to break out a screwdriver for the plate anyway. One advantage if you are not installing yourself is that someone can't go ham with a power drill to tighten things up and stripping something or damaging the bumper because there is no philips or torx on it.

The backing mount sample pic isn't the final location I hung them from, but I didn't have another picture and I wanted to show how they sit. They only fit on the lower slots, the backing brackets were too long for the top black section if you wanted it higher. The silver nuts for the thumbscrews can slide up and down the slot on the backing bracket so you can get them lined up. I tried upside down mounts on the brackets and the hanging orientation and a variety of positions for the thumbscrews and for the backing brackets to hang. The final arrangement there is what I thought worked best. I installed and uninstalled at least a dozen times to try different things, and it took about a half hour total. Not counting bracket recovery time, of course.

All in all, pretty happy with it. Time will tell if the thumbscrews stay tight or work loose. I will probably give it a couple of weeks to be sure I'm happy with the placement and then locktite it to be sure.
