Hi everyone! I wanted to make other GX owners aware after my 2024 GX Prem + was stolen from a hotel parking lot in Toronto while we were sleeping.

We don’t know the exact method they used, but after doing a lot of research and based on how quickly it happened, I suspect it may have been a CAN bus attack or another electronic theft technique. That has not been confirmed.

There was no alarm, no notifications through the Lexus app, no broken glass, and no signs of forced entry. My Lexus app initially showed the vehicle about 25 miles away from the hotel. When we reported the theft, Toronto Police went to that GPS location and found the GPS module, my garage door opener, wheel lock key, and our insurance and registration paperwork. (How kind of them)

Law enforcement also worked with Lexus Safety Connect, which has additional tools to locate stolen vehicles, but those systems also appeared to have been overridden during the theft.

Unfortunately, these vehicles appear to be attractive targets for organized theft rings. News articles I’ve read allege many are loaded into shipping containers and sent overseas to places like the UAE and Africa, where they’re resold at a significant markup.

My Lexus dealership has been wonderful throughout this. By pure luck, someone backed out of an Incognito Luxury+ the morning I called, so I’ll be taking delivery of that next week. They also agreed to order me another Nori Green with Saddle interior and will buy back the Incognito when my original build arrives. Back on the waiting list I go. 😢

If anyone has installed additional anti-theft protection on their GX, I’d love to hear what has worked!

Sorry to hear, that sucks. But it seems your luck turned around quickly. Interested to hear responses from others on additional protection recommendations.

Apparently, Toronto is a hot bed for thefts in general. here is a thread from the LC boards

I had no idea! We were visiting for the wknd with friends for my 40th bday. We live in upstate NY and the only cars they’re stealing in Rochester is Kia’s.

It seems like the LC and GX are both very easy to steal with the right tools. Being someone that lives in the PNW and occasionally road trips to the Seattle/Portland areas, I'm definitely considering some sort of theft prevention device. I'd recently seen a device that replaces one of your OEM relays under the hood and you can turn it on/off via remote(not OEM key fob). I've never looked into this type of stuff, but it was relatively inexpensive at around $100 I believe and logically seems like it would work and be an easy install. Anyone have experience with one of these?
