This is interesting. 2026 year-to-date is lagging 2025 significantly for both LC250 and GX550.
LC 2025 was 27,336 at this point, LC 2026 has dropped 40% to 16,412.
GX 2025 was 18,893 at this point, GX 2026 has dropped 20% to 14,981.
As the GX in particular remains very much in demand my speculation is the GX has a supply chain constraint. My speculation is Japan-produced V35a engines and/or components are being diverted from new vehicle manufacturing to service the Tundra V35a recall. I have not seen any substantiation of my speculation.
Some speculate Toyota/Lexus is throttling production to drive demand. Frankly this doesn’t make any sense as Toyota/Lexus does not get any upside from the dealer markups. Mark-ups are all done on the dealer side and the pricing power does not extend back to Toyota/Lexus corporate. In fact it hurts their corporate reputation so there is zero motivation to hold back production for ‘pricing power’.
