GX 550 V35A Engine Recall Possibly Expanded? (3 Viewers)

How many GX engine have blown in nearly two years of sales and about 70k units sold? I get that it’s too early to tell if these engines will last, but if we were going to have engine failures like the Tundra there is a large enough sample size where we would have heard things.

I’ve done a deep dive on this issue over the last few weeks. I think I would have been better off being oblivious about all this.

Interesting tidbit, you can tell the date your engine was produced by looking for a silver plate stamped on the engine. I was able to see it without having to take off the plastic cover. My car was delivered 4/12/25, with a 2/25 manufacturing date on the door and a 12/17/24 engine produced date.

I have decided to delay purchasing my GX 550 Overtrail until the 2027 models are released. Toyota is supposedly making significant changes to the main bearings (higher quality metal), improving oiling around those bearings, and changing to 5W30 oil. Hopefully this solves this the V35A engine failures and Toyota can finally put this issue behind them.
Why keep replace engines in 2025 and 2026 if the fix is coming in 2027? Just doesn't make any sense :)

Good point, I failed to clarify that I was going to wait and get a 2027 model in late 2026 or early 2027 when the 2027’s get released.

IMO this debacle is far from over and more recalls will ultimately happen. I love my GX but the engine even without the bearing issues is a rough idling SOB that I've been told by Lexus is simply by design because it's a truck. Funny my V8 in my old GX was smooth a silk. I guess Lexus is going to balance a dozen Martinis on top of this engine with the tagline "shaken, not stirred" to describe the rough idling vs. champagne glasses that don't even vibrate on the old V8's. There is simply no excuse for an engine to vibrate at idle speeds like this.

Just guessin thE GX460 was a v8 with no power and much looser toerances, but ran forever?
