My wife is about 6 weeks into her new GX550 (I kept her 125K mile 2018 Highlander as my DD). I have heard a lot about this model engine having engine main bearing failures, particularly in other vehicle models(like Tundra). Naturally these problems take miles and years to become evident so there are no recalls on 2026 models. Did Toyota fix the problem??? I understand our engines were built in Japan, so do these engine problems only originate in the non-Japan built engines due to lower quality employees, tooling, etc. that would be expected out of the home office. I have done a lot of research and they always say, if you are buying a Japanese car, buy one made in Japan. I hate buying cars....my only other DD is a 2008 MDX with 262K miles, and every YOUTUBE mechanic is pushing us to buy older "repairable" cars....but my wife did not want a previous generation GX. My main concern is that this new vehicle will likely be driven less than 10K miles per year; I will baby it, performing the first oil change in my garage at 1K miles (just in case!!). So what about all the fuss about this model number engine having issues with metal residue causing eventual engine failure? What do you guys think.....and is Toyota having a recall back in Japan on the home town manufactured cars???

I have a 2024 with less than 10K miles. It's just a week or so outside of the recall dates and there is no recall on it. I do have an extended warranty, eventhough I think Toyota will take care of any engine that fails in or out of warranty. I've heard of only one engine failure on this forum. My GX is not my daily driver.
