SCAMMED!! (2 Viewers)

Sorry to see this happen, @antomahroukian. We’re putting a new rule in place that will require at least 20 posts before anyone can post in the classifieds. Hopefully this helps prevent people from signing up just to scam members.
IMHO, I think 20 posts seem a bit low. I can easily post that amount in a day. Perhaps a probation time period (6 months or more) and higher post count is needed before allowing to sell? 🤷‍♂️

If someone is going to scam, none of this stuff will stop them. The goal is to make it a bit harder to scam, and give them another hoop to jump through. They can easily just create 10 accounts and let them be dormant for 6 months, but that's also a huge hurdle for legitimate users that I don't think should be imposed.

Always pay with a credit card. I they going take credit cards don't buy. With a credit card you have recourse to have the transaction reversed and it takes quite a bit of information to get an account open to receive payments by card.

I usually do the following, tho nothing beats in-person sales.
  • Google the image posted, be surprised how many scams were found this way
  • read posts by the user. Definitely seen some threads and conversations that seemed sus, as if user is trying to just get post counts but really don’t seem to know what’s they are talking about
  • if you see other members inquiring about the same product, dm them to see what response they got. I actually avoided a scam by doing this..another member here told me he already paid for the item that I was inquiring about..

I’m in Dallas and would be glad to offer to meet anyone that wants to sell a member something that is shipping from the Dallas area. Maybe this could be a solution as well. The interstate buddy system for legit buyers/members. Maybe reach out to another member local to the item or post up you need help in this regard. Just a thought, I know it might be a PITA but it might also run off a scammer if you say, “Hey another member is going to come by and take a look at the item for me, when would be a good time and where to view the roof rack, wheel, etc”

I also think a quick facetime call can work to scare the scumbags away. Not fool proof but at least some sort of proposed buffer.

This is a great idea actually.

Cash transaction is limited to your local area.
Usually, yeah. Just did a face to face cash deal 1200 miles from home from a forum member though. I didn’t get scammed and neither did he.

Some people travel on a regular basis. I only do cash face to face on forums and it usually works out.
