TOWING MIRRORS SOLVED!!!

After several brands purchased then returned, I have a solution that works, extends the mirrors quite a long way for towing a camper, and still allows the mirror to self fold without banging into the door. I’m so excited!

MIL-2912 Grand Aero 4 Towing Mirror - Pair

Bought from Amazon:
Amazon.com

Here is a quick picture of the box and a picture of the left mirror after I installed it. The mirrors swivels into various positions, and feels very secure.

Please note that in my original post I had listed what I thought Amazon sent. But i have since gotten several other versions and had to return them. The only one that fit well is this 2912 one:

good lord i hope they're functional because... they are not visually appealing haha. I have yet to tow, but generally it's only an open trailer with a vehicle on it. I am crossing my fingers I won't need them =P

They don’t need to be all that visually appealing, as they don’t stay permanently attached. You just use them when you’re carrying a trailer that’s wider than the vehicle., So you can see to change lanes and you don’t get a ticket.

Not cheap? I guess. Under $200 doesn’t strike me as much of a problem for a $80,000 vehicle, towing an expensive camper!

I don’t have any report on wind noise because I haven’t used these on the road yet, but it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters to me here is that I can see around the trailer, and that the mirrors are stable enough that they don’t shake and fall off at speed.

These mirrors look like they will do the trick. I also have the aero platinum’s on order, and will compare those.

I ordered them, I need something soon. Let us know how the platinum ones are.

I apologize for any confusion. I had ordered several models and was confused in my original post as to which one worked. Furthering the confusion, what was sent to me was a different model than what Amazon thinks I ordered. Looking at the package, this is what I actually got that worked:

I got them, tried to mount them and they seemed solid for about 5 minutes then the easily wobbled off with just light pressure. While I am not doubting you got them to stay on well, I'm wondering how? We mounted like the photo on the box but there is no instruction manuals. Can you share pics on how you mount them that they stay on please?

Mine were solid but they’re in storage at the moment. I had uploaded a picture. Here it is again.

I have the Aero3 version from a few years ago. This will be the 3rd tow vehicle to use them on. I did a quick test today. Seems like they’ll work for me.

That clamp looks like it is flat on both surfaces. That would work better. The one we have - which otherwise looks pretty identical - has one of the clamp surfaces rounded like for clamping on a pipe and that is what caused us the issue as far as I can tell.

Cilles,
Yes both surfaces of the mirror clamps are flat. As you see, bottom is thinner to sneak into a tight fit between the glass and mirror frame/box. Both are rubberized for grip..but top one is thicker and a bit more foam-like. The top one clamps/reaches onto only the non-glossy portion of mirror frame..which is nice as I just had entire front end PPF’d, including glossy part of mirrors.

They grip very well, never had one fall off 2 previous tow vehicles. I usually slightly re-tighten at first stop….

I might comment that the angle of the GX mirror box that the clamps hold to..is more severe than my previous 2 vehicles. So..I will drive and test and see if the clamps want to loosen at highway speeds. If so then I’ll try a tiny piece of very strong double sided tape on the inside of mirror box to provide more grip.
Let me know if more detailed pics would help. I just attached pics of same exact mirror set on the other two cars..

Thats the thing, the ones we got, while otherwise looking the same as yours have the top part of the clamp curved like it is to go around a round bar. This breaks the entire system. 😥😥
