Weak air conditioning

I do want to follow up to say the S flow on my GX defaults to on, significantly restricting air flow. I have to switch it off on every start. Annoying. The AC controls go to 7 and that’s exactly how it feels 7/10. The max setting on my FJ80 and 200 are significantly more powerful. Oh well.

I have S-flow, Concierge, and Eco Cool off. Automatic works just fine with all that stuff off.
Same here - I am in Arizona and my AC works fine in automatic mode with all the concierge stuff turned off. I keep it on sync and just twist my driver's side dial down to the mid-60s when I get into the hot car and I'm turning it up to 69 or 70 after a few minutes because it's ice cold in the truck.

That's a vehicle setting. You can set for AC to come on during auto, or stay off. I leave mine off. When it's hot I turn on and it stays on with auto.
Mine is not set to 'auto' mode - when I start the car and my temp is on 60 for both the driver/passenger it does not turn the AC on - I have to manually select it

The temperature does not drive whether AC comes on or not. When you start the car it should remember the last AC setting (on or off) regardless of Auto/manual mode.

This whole thing is kind of a mystery. But two things come to mind.

1) If you're not in "Auto", then it seems reasonable that the A/C wouldn't "automatically" turn on. In all of my vehicles with analog buttons and knobs, cranking the temp knob to the coldest position didn't automatically turn on the A/C compressor.

2) Are you sure that the A/C isn't on? Because the lack of a light for A/C on the screen doesn't mean the A/C isn't on. It just means that you haven't manually turned it on or off, so the GX is deciding whether it's on or off based on your other settings.

Other than running the cool box, when have you seen the AC on without the AC light? I've not experienced that.

My car must have a bad memory - it forgets that I shut it off with the AC on - and forgets

That would be a first for me - you would think the light on means its 'on'

OK, I just went out and cycled through a bunch of settings. Here's my guess:

When there's NO AC light (as opposed to blue for on, gray for off) it just means you're in an "auto" mode - Auto, Max Cool, Max Heat etc. That's all it means. Doesn't mean AC compressor isn't running.

If you go to Settings/vehicle customize/climate and have "AC mode in Auto" turned on, in Max Cool your AC is definitely ON but because it's an Auto mode there's no AC light on the display.

Not saying it makes any sense, but I think that's what's happening.

Ok that makes sense. I don’t have ac mode in auto on. So I always see a blue or gray light.

The engineers' flowchart for the HVAC operation must gotten a big laugh from the programmers.
