Windshield Protection

Does the XPEL on the windshield seem to self heal the wiper scratches over time and/or between rain storms?
Anyone have cost on the XPEL for GX windshield install?
I got priced at $550 for the new Xpel windshield protection product. Sales person for the detailing shop said film has to be replaced when as it gets worn/used, but should get over a year+. Clarity is excellent and wiper marring only comes if the wipers and windshield are very dirty. The film does self heal so if you get some marring, sales rep said to leave it in direct sunlight.
Considering I live in an area with bad roads, tons of salt and debris flying around, I'm going to go forward with it.

Two options on the protection... I have the new super clear XPEL windshield film and its been holding up great. The second option is protection plan and they apply a coating the plan is I think $700-$800 and it covers 5 years and multiple true OEM replacements if it cracks. Both options they have in stock at Gulf Coast Auto Shield here in houston. Ask for John Gray he is the owner and also has a GX550 OT+. He will make sure you're well taken care of. Google Search -- ALSO, coming from a 4runner with multiple windshield replacements from s reputable non-oem glass I am going to only put on OEM glass in the future due to the quality of non-OEM is typically bad when looking at it in direct sunlight you can see tons of specs and imperfections.
Thanks so much. I talked to John, the owner of Gulf Coast Auto Shield. He was very helpful. As soon as I get my new windshield, I’m taking it there for the XPEL film.

I must be confused. Why would you pay to have a film put on your windshield if your wipers can damage it? Possibly if you absolutely never need the wipers? With mountain roads, the associated dust, bugs, bird poop, snow etc....nope. Glass seems to hold up ok for me.

Paint protection is a totally different situation.

Geez... I was quoted $800 for Exoshield exterior windshield protection... the guy offered me 10% discount but these numbers seem super high. In Indiana... could that possibly be why?!

Also, on Exoshield... do we have to make sure that they add ceramic coating? Is that not part of the process?

PPF? Exoshield? Can someone point me to the direction on what the difference is? Thank you~

I’m having the xpel film installed next week. It’s about $400-$500 here in Houston. They didn’t mention anything about ceramic coating. The owner of the place also has a 2024 GX OT+ like mine and he installed it on his. I got his name from this forum.

I can't find someone near me who will do XPEL, but I have found an Exoshield installer.... looks like $730 to do it...

I'm feeling a little reluctant here to spending this amount because I also bought into the Lexus Platinum Tire/Wheel, Windshield crack plan... But then I figure having Exoshield (or whatever I end up finding) is just another layer of protection... with the hopes that I don't ever have to rely on that Lexus plan.... and it only helps with small cracks. I've seen a few crazy lookin' windshield cracks on this forum site for sure that has my gears turnin...

I'm starting to question whether that Lexus plan was worth the extra cost... they gave it to me for $1550 but now I'm wondering if I got suckered lol...

Help? Yes - exoshield it? Yes - you got suckered on the Lexus plan but maybe within the next 5-years they'll cover any tire/wheel replacements so it's ok?

lol... a virtual penny for your thoughts...

I got ExoShield windshield Protection Film and purchased the Lexus warranty. Call me paranoid, but given the cost of the windshield and the lengthy delay to replace, I figured it was money well spent for a little piece of mind. The Lexus plan also only covers 1 replacement windshield.

My windshield cracked two weeks in on my OT+. I think the angle of the windshield increases the blow compared to regular windshields with more of an incline. Lexus quotes me about $2k for install and calibration. Insurance is covering it. I’m definitely getting a plan of some sort now. Note: The windshields are in stock, but the molds are on national backorder, like the brakes for those of us with squeezing brakes. Hoping to get the hood flutter addressed soon too.

I just had Exoshield installed yesterday in anticipation of a 3000+ mile trip. An unexpected benefit is that my headup display now works with my polarized lens prescription sunglasses. Not sure why, but I'll take it.

REALLY?! That's a very interesting perq!!! i literally JUST bought a pair of non-polarized shades because I can't see my HUD... lol.. aaaaand my baby is at the car spa getting exoshielded (and front window tinted)... Now, to return the shades or not is the question... hmm...

Will have to see if mine does the same when I get her back~

I am in STL also. Can you tell me where you got yours installed? Thanks! Bob

I don’t get the cost benefit of PPF windshield or the windshield protection plan from the dealer. If insurance will replace a damaged windshield for $100 or whatever your deductible is, that would be somewhere between 7 and 15 replacement windows to match the costs in the other posts in this thread. Are you really going to need to replace your windshield 7+ times!?

For me it wasn’t about the cost, but the potential delay in waiting for new glass. Some people wait for months. I’d rather to avoid that issue and the glass insurance coverage only pays for 1 replacement (multiple repairs, but 1 new windshield).

My wife hit a buzzard this weekend on the highway. The car is undriveable because of the glass falling in the car. We have the Lexus glass protection. They are telling the there is a nationwide backorder on the OEM windshields. Could be months before we can get one. They are telling me the Premium Glass service is installing aftermarket ones that you can get quicker. We will see how this plays out........

Whoa! Glad everyone is OK. Not so much for the buzzard I suppose. Would you keep us updated how the aftermarket windshield works out if you go that way? Might be just fine and a good solution for those who don't want to deal with lenghty wait times.

Just off the phone with my service adviser and he told me that the glass coverage only covers replacement with aftermarket windshield's. That doesn't seem right, but I am not going to argue much since I can't get an OEM one anyway. They are hooking me up with a loaner to drive while we wait.

Update - I received a call from my service adviser today. He called with some bad news that the glass replacement plan that I paid for at purchase, "Does not cover birds". Only rocks and road debris. So, if anyone has purchased this protection plan, keep that in mind.

After a pretty heated conversation and phone call with my salesman, whom we have now purchased 3 GX's from the past several years, the GM agreed to cover the cost for replacement for us.

Well, less than two weeks into ownership of my 2024 OT+ and two rocks flew up and hit my windshield right in the line of sight. Left two chips that are now starting to spread. And, I didn’t purchase the windshield treatment and protection plan. I’m currently working with my insurance and the glass guy at the Lexus dealership. So, I have two questions for the group:
1. My insurance is initially stating that they will only pay for an aftermarket windshield replacement, not the OEM windshield. The glass guy at the dealership is going to help me try to convince them to pay for the OEM windshield due to safety issues related to possible distortion of the heads up display. Of course, I’m not holding my breath on that request. So, what opinions are out there on the need for an OEM replacement? If I have to pay out of pocket, it’s about $1,500 from what I can tell vs. a $100 deductible for an aftermarket windshield.
2. Once I get whichever windshield replacement, what are thought around the windshield treatment and coverage plan? The dealership’s plan is called Resistall by CalTex. It’s a sealant treatment that supposedly reduces rock chip damage. It also covers windshield replacements for up to five years. It costs $1,900.
Ouch - sorry for that to happen. I had safelite come in and fix my one chip - but they did an average job. Know OEM windshields can be a 90 day wait
