Choosing Full Roof Rack: Prinsu or Westcott? (1 Viewer)

can anyone recommend a set of T-bolts that works with the Westcott rack? not sure what I should be using to mount stuff.

Westcott says that the correct bolt size to fit in their rack channels is 1/4-20.

thanks, I was hoping to just purchase something from Amazon that I don't have to grind down to fit.

The stainless 1/4-20 bolts that I had all fit fine. But the hardware store didn't have any.

The answer is probably something like this:

It just needs to grab the inside of the track, but of course it must fit well in the track.

The other option is to put the nut portion in the track (a channel nut) and then secure a bolt down into the nut in the track like this:

Just installed my Westcott rack. Happy with the results. It is quiet too.

Does anyone have experience with a Dissent roof rack? I’m debating between that and Westcott. Thanks!

After looking at all the options on the market, I went with the Prinsu rack. With a need to support a James Baroud XXL Roof Top Tent (the largest they make), I needed serious stoutness in the rails and cross bars to support the static wait of two adults and weight of the tent with the tent weight distributed across two front cross bars and two rear cross bars. Attending overland shows and reviewing and touching Dissent, Westcott, Prinsu, Frontrunner (owned on my 2019 4Runner), Gobi, and a few lesser known brands, the Prinsu best fit my needs. Here are some pictures with it installed with a shot at the top of Redcone in Colorado.

Removing the OEM roof rails and roof rack that came with the GX took maybe 15m. I listed these items for sale on Craigslist here, Lexus GX550 Overtrail Roof Rails and Roof Rack - auto parts - by owner - vehicle automotive sale - craigslist.

Assembly and installation of the Prinsu roof rack took about two hours requiring the help of another person to lift onto the roof and then bolt down.

How was the Prinsu rack noise before the RTT? I also like this design but didn't realize it was a bit taller than the Westcott. May also be adding a larger RTT.

Without the RTT, I don’t even notice the noise at highway speeds. When I first picked up my GX with the OEM OT rack, I thought about ripping the damn thing off immediately it was so obnoxiously loud (I can say that now that I sold it to some poor bastard). I did replace the wind fairing with one that accommodates a 40” light bar which does make a bit more noise at highway speeds but not enough to bother me as did the OEM OT rack.
