FRONT BUMPER (winch mounted) OPTIONS FOR 2026-2027

I’ve been bending the ears of some of the veterans on our forum and perusing the extensive discussions of ordering woes, installation glitches, incorrect hardware delivery and suboptimal delivery times for various bumper products.

Curious to gather the forum’s experiences for each of the current top choices in this modification and if there are any product newcomers. (Specifically for winch compatible front bumpers that provide a seemless install.)

Here’s what I’ve found thusfar - keep in mind - plan on an additional $2000 - $3000 on top of the price of your bumper choice for the winch, lights / lightbar and installation.

One phenomenon that I’ve noted from our forum is that if you plan on resale of your GX - the more aggressive your modifications, the greater challenge you may find upon resale.

Buyers who are unfamiliar with offroading upgrades may not want to pay an additional premium for additions that they don’t want or expect to use.

My philosophy on bumper and other high dollar upgrades is to ask will I actually use this addition in the years I will own the vehicle, or am I just putting money into making my vehicle “look” like it’s more capable?

Me personally I factor in aesthetics and actual use - (which means i do play in the sand box - but don’t intend to do any aggressive rock crawling in my $100k SUV) - so I’m leaning to a front bumper that will host a 10k plus winch (to pull me or someone else out of a ditch) and keep the stock front lights and fascia for a nicer finished look.

I will likely settle with the CBI, JWoffroad, or Viking product for these reasons. But again, I’m in no rush .. part of the joy of upgrading a rig is pacing one’s self and doing it over time. Enjoying and appreciating each addition, is like getting a new gift every so often .

And most importantly - with each update to our vehicles it’s essential to get out and enjoy it, while we still can.. and perhaps bring others along for the ride …

One philosophical digression as I reflect on this aspect - it’s a saying from my faith tradition: “Take advantage of five before five: your youth before your old age, your health before your illness, your riches before your poverty, your free time before your work, and your life before your death.”

May we all capitalize on each of these blessings while they are available to us.


OPTIONS FOR 2026 -2027 - please add to the list with pics and experiences.


CBI covert - great looking front bumper with a seemless look and nice front light bar mounting site. However, a couple of people have compained about an unsightly gap in some installations along the side wings. One owner shared it took 16 weeks to arrive. One complaint was that the ability to manually decouple the clutch of the installed winch allowing someone to manually pull out the winching cable was limited in this product. MBgx550 shared that the 10klb Warin winch he installed came with a wireless remote that allowed this function without having to physically reach the winch itself.

JWoffroad: NoNameX name dropped this product - sharing that it also had a seemless look and less involved install. It looks very similar however instead of a light bar mount it allows for mounting of two single lights instead of a light bar.

Dissent front bumper: NoNameX’s front winch mounted bumper choice that affords greater clearance / approach angles, but reportedly is a more involved install. This is a winner for the “serious” crawler’s front bumper mod, though in my mind changes the aesthetic of the front of the GX - away from its original look.

Expedition 1 - front bumper: Another more involved and robust appearing product with an integrated bull bar. Priced over $2000. And like dissent changes the aesthetic of the front of the GX - but seems to afford greater clearance and reduced approach angles. You must be a “bull bar” lover for this one.

Viking Blitz Evolution Bumper: another seemless bolt on bumper, but at a more premium price tag. One of the front runners of GX 550 bumper upgrades. I’m curious if those who spent the extra money feel it was any better in quality, fit / finish, or delivery times than CBI or JWoffroad.

Rago Fabrication: $1700 front bumper upgrade, with an integrated look, and more invasive installation like dissent and Expedition 1.

I got the JW Offroad because it was the only 'covert' bumper that had proper winch clutch access. As someone who ends up winching frequently, this was very high on my list.
All the low profile bumpers that have some winch access below the lightbar would be very difficult to operate if the car is any way tilted forward or in mud. I don't remember which one it was, but I think one even required opening the hood to operate the clutch.
So you better plan on getting one of the winches that has a remote clutch, assuming there are no reliability issues there.
There is a way to install a behind-the-grill lightbar with the JW Offroad bumper. Not really my thing, but it's there if you need it.
One thing that most people don't notice when ordering - the Viking bumper has better protection than the JW bumper around those little winglets. After trimming the plastic in the wheel well to install, some of these bumpers (JW) leave a wide open space for dirt / mud to get in. There's nothing critical up there, but there are a few very fragile connectors for the bumper sensors, washers and the turbo cooler intakes.
Overall I'm happy with the JW for now.

I’ve had very inconsistent and unreliable comms with Peak4x4 in Australia for one of their other, pseudo hoop style bumpers with the integrated lights package.
I’m still kinda waiting to see what they do. I haven’t pressed the issue much over the past few months; but the shipping alone was like $3k or so..pushing the total cost before installation to ridiculous prices. Maybe from tariffs, really not sure. Every month I would load the website order page..try to contact them, etc; and get the same results.

For the time being I’m on standby. I have a couple other avenues still to try. If I make any progress I’ll let you know if you’d like.

I talked to them about a month ago and they said they were hopefully going to secure a distribution deal with vendors in the U.S.. No definitive timeline, but it seemed to be about a year out. I’ll let you know anything I hear, if you do the same. This is the only bumper remotely close to what I’m looking for. I’ve had 7 deer strikes in the last 5 years and 5 the last 3, including totaling a 4Runner.

Illymost - Deer impact mitigation is quite a fascinating indication for investing in a robust front bumper.

I’d always thought of my reasoning for changing out the front bumper as a rigid structure to attach a winch, have some marginal improvement in my approach angle, while maintaining the aesthetics of the front of the vehicle.

Deer impact mitigation is a whole different level of purpose and required protection … and frankly something that I had not even considered.

I think for that purpose the obvious winner as far as US available products would be the expedition 1 front bumper with integrated bull bar. That being said, it would be nice to have front rails on that unit between the two angular pieces to better protect the front grill of the vehicle, if deer impact mitigation is the primary objective.

My feeling is whether it’s a deer or an idiot on his cellphone that impacts the front end of my GX - my focus is the safety of me and my passengers. The vehicle can be replaced, the deer can be moved off the road, our families are irreplaceable.

For me will stay with a low profile, winch ready “covert” style (at some point).

That said - very interested in seeing what else is out there for other forum members who are are looking for an indestructible front end ..

I went with Dissent for clearance, weight, lights and looks. I bought my GX to enjoy so I don't care that much about resale. I love the looks of the Dissent bumper. The only other bumper I considered was the Slee bumper but it is heavier and looks bulkier. Access to the winch clutch is good. I'm a novice to off-roading but having been out to the desert at night without lights made it little difficult to see. The additional fog lights and light bar on the Dissent bumper was a strong advantage. In addition Dissent is a great company and makes some awesome products for the GX.

Victory 4x4 here. They make a great product in all their offerings. Quality welds, SS hardware. I went with their bumper because of it's low profile and not having to cut any plastics. I have a Warn Zeon 10 sitting on it.

Curious - Anyone else with a victory bumper in Southern California? Would love to see it up close.

Also anyone with other NEW options to CBI, JW-Offroad or Victory for a covert bumper with a clean fit (no big gaps).

What I’m learning - being made of Aluminum - Victory saves in weight, but not as strong as the steel options. It is also at the highest price point around $2400.

JW sounds like a small one man outfit and leaves areas exposed. And CBI has issues with gaps at the wings.

Adding light bar and 10-12k winch to Victory and investment bumps by $4500 -$5000.

Will pace my purchases - and see what other large manufacturers come out with in the coming year.

That said - everyone who has installed one - I really love how ALL of these bumpers augment your rigs - and would love to one day have a steel bumper and winch on mine..

Again it’s a marathon not a sprint. Meanwhile, for now, I will enjoy these cool off road adjuncts vicariously through all of these great pics!!! ️

This Peak bumper looks great to me. I lean a little toward no hoops for weight, but in images, I like how this reminds me of older LC builds.

For no hoop options, I came across Hamer 4x4 which lists a US site and front bumper for the 550.

I had reached out to ARB to see if they would offer something for the GX. Their response was unlikely, but did say if more people request it, they could consider it. I appreciate how their bumpers look well engineered and have crushable components in the mounting. Something like their Zenith or Summit MK II bumpers would probably look nice.
