Lexus marketing ploy is pissing off and driving away customers. I have been on a waiting list for over a year for a GX550 Overtrial in earth color. I have expanded my search to multiple dealerships in other states with no results. A couple of Overtrail +'s have come in but I don't feel like paying 10k extra for massaging seats and 21 speakers. Dealerships are charging a minimum of MSRP and you can't even order the options you want. You have to except it however Lexus sends it. Like with a 600 dollar extra traffic jam assist on an offroad vehicle. (not much traffic offroad). Then dealerships are putting their own add on's charging 5-10K over MSRP for crap you didn't ask for.

My wife and I had deposits at 2 Lexus Dealerships in the state for an Earth Overtrail. It took close to 8 months to receive a call that they had a GX incoming that “fit” our desired wishlist. I get your frustration, but Lexus Is smart. Be patient, you’ll get one and when you do, you’ll be happy you waited.

It also helps the ones who owns them with resale. I’ve owned quite a few luxury brands, and boy do they depreciate. From what I’ve seen, the GX holds strong.

Good Luck! Remember, good things come to those who wait

I joined this place because I thought I wanted to buy a new GX. I still like them. But no way would I pay over msrp. I also don't "need" one. I drive a G550 and wife drives a GLE. We like the Lexus GX550, but the limited availability, over msrp pricing, and reliability issues kept us from buying. I'm still keeping an eye/ ear on these, but Lexus is just missing the mark, IMO.

It’s not difficult to get an OT at MSRP in a reasonable timeframe. Getting a rare color, well, the lack of them is what makes it rare. I’m here for the vehicle, not the paint. Can’t see waiting forever for a rare color if I really wanted the vehicle in the first place.

Two month wait list for an OT in one of my color choices at MSRP. No deposit or dealer add ons.

I was in the same boat, still on a list locally. If you don't mind going out of state, hit up Lexus of Pembroke Pines in FL. I got on their list just before Thanksgiving, mine arrived at dealership a couple days ago, should have it in about a week.

Not sure what ‘reliability’ issues you’ve heard of - this vehicle has been bulletproof. The engine recall impacted a very small set of the first vehicles out of the factory - and were voluntarily recalled by Lexus to prevent potential issues later down the road with metal shavings that may or may not have caused an impact.. Other than that - the reliability record is one that every other car maker is envious in contrast. For example I found my last S-class to be very unreliable in comparison.

The thread subject line and following rant described nothing about this so called "marketing ploy." What exactly is Lexus's "marketing ploy" in terms of the GX?

As for the actual complaint(s) you have, I agree, the difficulty in procuring one immediately is a bit annoying. Also, random dealerships charging ADMs is also annoying (but that isn't a Lexus issue, that is a dealership specific issue). Regardless, if you are patient and do a bit of leg work on your own, you can find one at MSRP and what you want. It took me roughly two months from start to finish, but I was able to secure one in SoCal which is notorious for ADM up-charges across the board.
