🧑‍💻 GX550 Tech Tips and Tricks (2 Viewers)

My Short List so far:
  • Hold Unlock on fob to open windows, programmable at dealer(Page 100 of manual)
  • Remote Start via fob: Lock 3 times holding on the last
  • Fob Sleep: Hold Lock, Press Unlock Twice, Fob Light will blink 4 times
  • Bind Seat Memory to Key. Press Seat preset and unlock on door
  • Enable auto parking break by pulling and holding until beep
I just had the 'open windows trick' programmed at the dealer. It works great. They use their OEM tool, CBEST.
What they don't tell you: the windows will not go back up if you hold the lock button, like BMW and Mercedes. Need to use the mechanical key to close the windows and moonroof from outside. Obviously, this is a safety feature that Lexus couldn't get around.
And the service is not free. $43.50, but I think it will be a nice idea to air out the vehicle after sitting in the sun all day!

Is it possible for auto hold to default to on when you start the vehicle?
This is actually a good idea. All my other cars didn’t need to have to hit a button to turn this feature ON. I would much prefer the button is there to turn it OFF as I always use it.

At 36:17 of the video 2024-2025 Lexus GX 550 Deep Dive the presenter make a statement that the right liftgate can be programmed in two, do anyone know how to program this button? I have a 2025 GX550 OT +.

Rear lift gate almost hitting your garage door? Use this tip to adjust the stopping height. Once already opened, push the button on the rear lift gate to close (not the close and lock button), hit the button again when the lift gate reaches the height you want to save, hold the button until you hear four beeps. To reset to the default height, hold the button until you hear six beeps.

It is an awesome feature, BUT i have hit my head being 6' 4" multiple times and we are 3 days into this thing. Can't wait until the newness wears off and the family will take my tundra instead. My two boys fit better in the back seat anyway. Very cool feature overall.

I seem to have found a way to permanently disable s-flow, which has stayed off for me for 2 weeks now. Curious to see if this works for anybody else.

1) Start the car WITH NO OTHER PASSENGERS
2) Hit the Auto climate control button
3) Turn ON s-flow from the climate menu
4) Click the rear climate button to control the rear AC
5) Change the fan speed to anything other than off (it should be off because you have no rear passengers)
6) If you go back to the climate screen, you should now see that s-flow has turned off
7) You can now reset the rear climate to whatever setting you want, including turning it off

It looks like manually changing the rear climate fan speed disables s-flow permanently for me, and I can then use the front seat climate controls freely. I don't often have rear passengers, so I'm not sure if that affects s-flow.

That being said, I find myself quite liking s-flow and climate concierge and I might run with them on anyway.

I saw a neat trick on facebook.

There is an app on your iphone called Shortcuts. You can create simple buttons on your home screen that you just touch once and it will then execute the command such as remotely lock the door, remotely unlock the doors, remotely start the engine, remotely stop the engine. The key here is that you don't have to open the Lexus app, then long hold the buttons to execute the commands. You can just tap whichever button and the shortcut takes care of the rest. I rarely remote start my truck because it takes a few steps to open the app, then it's a pain to hold the start button for about 5 seconds. Or with the key fob I can rarely get it to remote start on the first try. First world problems.

Here's a screen shot of my home screen - I created shortcut buttons for Lock, Unlock, Start engine, and Stop engine. I park in my attached garage and I don't lock the GX so, if I want to remote start it, I first have to tap the Lock shortcut, then tap the Start shortcut. The Start shortcut will fail if the truck isn't first locked.

Here are the instructions posted on facebook - it's for a Toyota but works for the Lexus app as well.

What I had to do was open the Shortcuts app, tap the + icon in the upper right, then the screen says "Add actions from below to create a shortcut" and you scroll down and find & open the Lexus app. Choose which command you want, such as "Remote Start Vehicle".

Then the next screen shows the shortcut and there is a small down arrow in the title bar to the left of "Done" that opens a new window. Here you can Rename, Choose Icon, and Add to Home Screen. Name it what you want, choose your color, choose your icon, and Add to Home Screen. Then flip through your home screens (obviously the more apps you have, the more pages you have to flip through), find the new button, and hold it so it goes into move mode and drag it over to the 1st page home screen. Then you just have to touch the button and the phone executes the command. The Lexus app pops up a message confirming the action was completed.

For Android users you can do the same as above, tap and hold the Lexus App icon and a menu will populate with "Start" "Lock" "Unlock" tapping the + symbol next to a command will add a shortcut from the app to your homescreen. Also, the Northview Lexus YouTube channel just added a deep dive on the Infotainment System. Most applies to GX but there are a couple things you can skip because they don't apply. Great video,it is long but very thorough and helpful.

Anybody know how to disable Auto headlights? I want to run the DRL only
The Only way is to unplug the light sensor that is on the dash passenger side between the center and right side speakers. I did that on my tacoma when i got it. On the gx its not easy to get to unfortunately. I might try to remove the glove box and whatever else to try and gain access to it.

Lots of great info on this forum. Does anyone know if there is a way to change the nav system graphics from 2D to 3D?

New to the forum and just going through this thread - if you touch the compass on the factory nav it'll switch through north up, map rotation, and an oblique (3D-ish) view. It appears to reset every time I get in the car and I haven't found a menu setting underneath to set the default view. Typically I have Android auto on the display but it would be nice to have it stay in the 3D mode - not sure if that is possible.

Found out how to use the Lane Change Assist this weekend by accident while on a road trip. If your are using the adaptive cruise and hold down the signal stalk for about 3 seconds in the direction of the lane you are going to, a message will pop up telling you to look around and then if all is clear, it will switch lanes for you. Works pretty good.

How to activate Lane Change Assist
  • Ensure systems are active: Make sure Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) and Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) are both on.
  • Drive on a highway: The feature is only available on expressways or highways at speeds over 90 km/h (56 mph).
  • Signal the lane change: Hold the turn signal partway in the direction you want to change lanes.
  • Wait for system confirmation: The system will scan for a safe gap. A lane-changing vehicle icon will appear in the heads-up or multi-information display once it is ready.
  • Let the system work: The LCA will provide steering input to complete the lane change. You must keep your hands on the steering wheel, as the system will deactivate if it detects your hands are off the wheel.

Important to know
  • Driver supervision is required: The driver must always have their hands on the wheel, as the system can be overridden at any time by normal steering input.
  • LCA can be cancelled: The system will not perform a lane change if it detects an approaching vehicle from behind at a high speed, or if conditions are not met.
  • Check your owner's manual: For specific details on the operation and settings of your GX550, consult the owner's manual.

So I removed the glove box to see about gaining access to the sensor and I was able to. I pushed up on the sensor tabs with a long screw driver to pop it out of the dash to unplug. Here's a picture not the greatest but shows the connector looking between the airbag and dash brace above the a/c duct tube. Not gonna be easy if to plug it back in, but I'll worry about that later.
