I bought the Saris MHS and have encountered the same problem as the Kuat in this thread. The threaded pin is too short for the lock to fit on to. Also tried removing the anti wobble block from the stinger which would allow the use of standard 5/8” receiver pin but I could not get it out of the opening. I contacted Saris for help 4 days ago but no response yet. Could not find any solution to this. Frustrating and no choice but to return it and seek alternative brand.
RockyMounts GuideRail rack uses a similar threaded pin that is also too short:, so same problem for the GX.
I really like the modular design of the 1up but the shipping/duties/taxes nearly doubles the cost for me. Also unsure if the spring-receiver pin is removable to accommodate standard pins. Similar question with the QuickrStuff rack pin but it is double the msrp of 1up.
Btw, in reading through this thread, this is not an Overtrail issue. All GX550 trims have the same tow hitch design, which is also employed on other Toyota/Lexus models like the LCs and LXs. Would like to know Lexus/Toyota design engineers’ thoughts on the unusual hitch design choice.
