Hello, trailer hitch issue!

I bought the Saris MHS and have encountered the same problem as the Kuat in this thread. The threaded pin is too short for the lock to fit on to. Also tried removing the anti wobble block from the stinger which would allow the use of standard 5/8” receiver pin but I could not get it out of the opening. I contacted Saris for help 4 days ago but no response yet. Could not find any solution to this. Frustrating and no choice but to return it and seek alternative brand.

RockyMounts GuideRail rack uses a similar threaded pin that is also too short:, so same problem for the GX.

I really like the modular design of the 1up but the shipping/duties/taxes nearly doubles the cost for me. Also unsure if the spring-receiver pin is removable to accommodate standard pins. Similar question with the QuickrStuff rack pin but it is double the msrp of 1up.

Btw, in reading through this thread, this is not an Overtrail issue. All GX550 trims have the same tow hitch design, which is also employed on other Toyota/Lexus models like the LCs and LXs. Would like to know Lexus/Toyota design engineers’ thoughts on the unusual hitch design choice.

I haven't tried to put our 1-Up on the GX, but it seems like Lexus really mucked up the whole hitch area situation. Anyone know if the LC250 crowd is having similar issues?

To tow our trailer I use an Anderson WDH Weight Distribution Hitch w/ Sway Control | Andersen Hitches along with their locking hitch pin. Works very well and no need for anti-rattle device. I had to remove both plastic covers to install and once installed just the larger cover obviously. The location of the 7-pin connector is a pain as it is difficult to see even if you are down on your knee. I added these safety chain carabiner clips for easy hitching and unhitching.

I have 1up and rocky mounts racks, both offer an extended pin for the receiver (which I now have!). For the rockymounts, its called the XL Hitch Bolt and is like $10 and then 1up they sell replacement pins at various lengths, I think they're like $15.

Update on bike rack issue!!

The hitch pin is too short and no one actually makes this longer. I cannot simply replace it with another hitch pin because of the threading. Apparently my rack has a specific, outdated, hitch in general meaning it has to be tightened down with the threads in order for it to sit tightly within the actual receiver. So I can sell my rack to someone with a normal receiver box buy another one or ratchet the pin down and use a cable to lock it onto the car. I’m told this should never rattle out of the box soooo that’s what I’m doing for now!!!

Thanks to all of you for your help! It has been extremely frustrating!
Go with a 1UP rack you will like the ease of fitment on the GX550
