lexus gx550 premium driver door rattle/cabin noise (1 Viewer)

I just got my 24 GX PP back from being fixed a couple weeks ago for this same ticking noise. My dealership has fixed two GX's now including mine. I would think there would be a bulletin by now on this issue. The issue is spot welds that have come loose from the factory in the c-pillar where several pieces of metal come together. My dealership found 3 loose weld spots in my GX. They had to take head liner out to fix. I have heard some dealerships using using silicone instead by my dealership fixed the welds. Here are some pics taken by another that had a similar issue and fixed with some sort of silicone. Also included description of my work order. They fixed the issue. My GX is completely quiet now and I love it. That tick drove me crazy. Show your dealership this information. I also made a recording of the noise and shared with my dealership. lol
Thank you for posting the photos and documentation. This problem isn't being addressed by most dealerships. It's definitely the source of the metallic clicking. My dealer said they "couldn't replicate it". Eventually, they will release TSB for this common problem.

Man, I couldn't and wouldn't live with that sound - If your dealer is giving you a hard time, insist they go for a ride along with you so you can point it out (this is supposed to be their SOP anyway for issues like this) and demand it get fixed. You have plenty of evidence and other user information from this forum to substantiate the issue.

They finally found the culprit of the ticking noise. I had to get the service manager involved, and he was able to dive deeper with a technician and finally replicate the noise from the B-pillar. Annoying part about this was that I called Lexus to open a case and they told me to kick rocks; they can't do anything about it. I had to push the service manager to get something going. They, at the dealership, internally opened something with corporate/Japan (their explanation was that someone from Japan would advise on how to fix it). Finally got the call earlier this week and they found the spot welds in the b pillar was not at spec. So, this whole week, it has been at the body shop getting the spot welds re-welded. I will post technician notes and service notes when I get the car back.

I must say this whole process has been annoying because of the previous rudeness and gaslighting of the service advisors saying they cannot hear anything. But, after over a year later I think this issue can be resolved. Toyota has a serious QC issue with their spot welds, just based on things in here with the C pillar, B pillar, Roof, etc and the LC forums. Other models like Camry and corolla have had spot weld issues as as well. They need to TSB this shit or recall it.

My service advisor says they've had rattling issues in the GX series for years.

With the GX460 he says the pillar welds are fine and its generally the seat rails that cause annoying rattling. The rattling from the back seats can be fixed by moving the seats up one click from their rear-most setting, but the front seats need to have the seat rails replaced to get rid of the noise.

With the GX550 he says they're seen a few of them in for rattling already and its been the same thing each time, so when one comes in with rattling they can already guess it'll be a loose weld in one of the pillars or somewhere up high

I gotta say, this seems like something a luxury vehicle company would want to get a handle on.
