This is an update to my research on the Mark Levinson Sound System in the plus model of the GX550. There is no subwoofer in the GX550. In the lift gate there is a 7” woofer (the lower speaker in the lift gate). One can only hear the three speakers in the life gate if one selects them only. If anyone knows anything about acoustical treatments, they know that the sound from the speakers in the lift gate is canceled out by the fabric of the backseats and the flooring in the cargo area.
So what am I saying, even when Lexus decides to replace the amplifier in the GX one will still not get the lows that we all are looking for in a premium vehicle sound system, because of the absent of a subwoofer.
Some had said the that the midrange speakers in the GX550 + that have built in twitters are two speakers, this is not true. A midrange speaker with a built in twitter is one speaker using the same channel. So do I think that the GX550 plus model have 21 speakers, absolutely not.
I have attached an image of the seven inch woofer (I think it’s a midrange speaker) in the lift gate, and the parts list for the GX550 Mark Levinson Sound System in the GX550 plus models.
