Orders with moonroof delete - Overtrail (1 Viewer)

"Doc fees" is sort of a catch all phrase. When I asked in those "gimme the OTD price" discussions at multiple different dealers, and keeping in mind I'm a sample of one, I've gotten different but similar answers, such as "it's our fee for Docusign services," or "it's what we charge to process the sale" or "our internal documentation and paperwork processing fee."

That last explanation sort of makes sense. However in that light so would "$125, that's our fee for having a receptionist", and "$20, that's our fee for having chilled bottles of water on hand to offer to you," and "$100, that's the fee for pulling new vehicles into this nice, shiny-floor, indoor showroom so we all have something to look at while you decide if you want to part ways with your hard-earned money! (So stop bothering me until you're ready to buy something!)"
Exactly....the Documentation Fee is just another cash grab. The dealer is trained to act like the doc fee was handed down to Moses on a stone tablet and you can not question it. A simple compromise to preserve the sacred doc fee is to just get the dealer to agree to drop the overall price by $500. I'll happily pay your $250 doc fee if you drop the vehicle price by $500.

My requirement was an Overtrail base or +. My wish was Atomic Silver and no sunroof and minimal port & dealer B.S. add-ons. I ended up with white, no sunroof, and way too many add-ons but the dealer was willing to negotiate the price down to somewhat-reasonable. Thankfully I did not have to buy the Overtrail roof rack.

The roof rack must be one of the higher margin PIO items.

I think I posted about it and my experiences to date in another thread, where some "MSRP dealers" get from lexus offer for sale models loaded with all these PIO add ons. A roof rock PIO add-on is a sure sign they (or Lexus) are trying to extra hard to squeeze every last dollar out of a sales transaction.

Can anyone recommend any dealerships that are taking orders for Overtrails with the moon roof delete. So far I haven’t had any luck and will probably just get on a list for a standard overtrail with the moonroof. Thanks!
yes, I just picked up my 2025 OT from Ourisman Lexus in Rockville MD, with deleted moon roof. I was specific with the sales team that I did not want moonroof and had no problem waiting. Put $3k deposit March 3 and picked up yesterday. Great team at Ourisman, salesman Jin Bae and the GM is Ryan Ando. They also were able to delete some PIOs that it had but I did not want, like the roof rack and sliders. I pre-purchased and installed today the Land Cruiser FE roof rack and NYTOP sliders, which both are much better than the Lexus OEMs, IMHO. good luck

Front plate 😵‍💫

Thanks for all the feedback. This sounds like what I’ve heard from the dealers. Time to bite the bullet and get on a list with a TX dealer that will work with me on PIOs.

I ended up not getting what I wanted, a moon roof delete on our OT. I have had moon roofs on almost every car I have owned (other than the glass roof which I really like on our EV) and never used them. Much to my surprise, I have used the moon roof on the GX more than all other cars combined. It is nice for some ventilation on a dusty trail.

Still thinking through options on a roof rack and if I want a full length or 3/4s. Need to scope out an awning and decide if I am going to do an external rod holder. Will also carry the occasional sheet of plywood with it. If I can get by with a 3/4, I will opt for that.

Why not post a pic that shows the moonroof delete?
This is what I could get from my garage camera. Not sure if it’s clear enough but will get better one when I get back from work.
