Rear Dash Cam power (1 Viewer)

Looking for a place to tap into to power a separate rear USB powered dashcam. There are two rear USB C ports for the 3rd row and would love to figure out how to tap into those behind the panel and run wire back to window where camera would be mounted. Just ignition power (not constant). Anyone have any mods similar using power back there?

I was wondering where I could get good voltage from the hatch area
Assuming you are doing a DashCam, I question if you are doing this correctly.

Normal configuration for dash cams is the main device on/at the windshield is the single source of power for all cameras, (typically from a fuse box but could also be from an ODB port). A USB cable -- although cable can be proprietary -- carries both power to and signal from the rear facing camera. If a camera needs power at the rear hatch then the design and configuration is a one off, IMO.

There are a lot of YouTube videos out there, some from "Chris Fix" were pretty good when I installed dash cams myself. Here's another one I watched a few times, this guy is installing on a vehicle similar to a GX550. Some of the DashCam manufacturers have install videos also.

The DIY-ers on YT should all tell you this next point. If they do not then skip them they're immediately suspect. Be extra-super, double careful whenever you run cables behind trim pieces (A Piller etc.) and under headliners, etc. So as to not obstruct any air bags. Your USB cable could inadvertently obstruct the designed blow-out path for an airbag. They you're in an accident and your insurance company says get lost, it's your fault.

I wanted to run 2 “front cams” but 1 of them in the rear …. I want the resolution

Ah ok.

Viofo has a newish model that does 4k HD front and rear and uses the latest Sony "sensors" (marketing term for camera lens). Look for the A229 Ultra model.

You might also consider running power from the same front fuse box you'll be using for the front camera. To get power at the rear you'd likely need to splice into the native wiring harness wires, switches or light fixtures. Why do that when fuse boxes are there for a reason, you just need to run cabling 10 - 12 ft.

Yeh kinda don’t wanna run wiring that far …. My 25 overtrail has the compressor so maybe I can tap into that

Not knowing how deep you want to dive on this, here's one tip: Check your local library's online access systems.

My local public library has online access to auto repair manuals. The actual name is "Auto Repair Source powered by Motor." The manuals are excellent, not the same as actual dealers use, but on par with printed factory service manuals you could have purchased from US auto manufacturers before the manufacturers moved this all online.

Today I checked and they now have a 2025 GX550 listed. A few months ago the GX 550 was missing from the list of Lexus vehicles.

There are 213 different wiring diagrams listed. I looked at a few. If you are ok reading electrical schematics you could easily find a place to splice into for your rear camera. See post 11 in this thread, these are the same diagrams I see.
