OEM+ DASHCAM BY FITCAMX REVIEW (1 Viewer)

Here are the magnets I used with one behind the trim and two visible in the photo. TRYMAG Neodymium Magnets with Holes, 80Lbs, Round, Wall Mountable Heavy Duty Screws, 3 Pack Rare Earth Tools Magnets Amazon.com

Here is the rubber grommet I cut to slip over the cable and place in the hole I made in the headliner.

ISPINNER 190pcs Rubber Grommet Assortment Kit, 9 Sizes Eyelet Ring Gasket 1/4" 5/16" 3/8" 7/16" 1/2" 5/8" 3/4" 7/8" 1" (Black) Amazon.com

I ran the rear camera cable down the driver side headliner to the rear to the rear hatch going thru the passenger side rubber wire housing, there are two to use with the pax side easier to route the cable.

I recommend using trim tools to pull the liner down and pop out the trim, something I already had on hand from other projects with other cars. Here is a link for trim tools similar to what I used. Poraxy 19Pcs Trim Removal Tool, Car Panel Dashboard Door Audio Trim Removal Tool Kit, Auto Clip Pliers Fastener Remover Set, Plastic Pry Tool, Automotive Upholstery Removal Kit Amazon.com

On a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 representing most difficult, this project is about a 3 taking total less than an hour.

Good luck and enjoy the mod.

Hey @k1autogx550! Thanks so much for the guidance on the install! I’ll be installing the camera this is weekend and am concerned with the rear camera install. Any tips on removing the trim from the top of the cargo gate? As well as the rubber tubing that houses the wires to the cargo gate? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Any tips on removing the passenger side rubber wire housing?

Slide something really thin and flat under the rubber part next to the the body so that you can release the clips. Like a feeler gauge. If you pull on it it will break the retaining clips.
Awesome, thank you so much for the reply! Any tips on removing the trim on the cargo side of the cargo door?

Thanks for sharing brother

Man, I was so proud of myself today getting the front and rear camera installed only to realize I had ordered the 2K version for the front camera without realizing it. I checked the fitcamx website again and notice they conveniently nestled in the 2K version in-between the 4K options and my dumb monkey brain was paying more attention to the SD card size lol.

Oh well, gonna just live with it since I don't want to go through the install process again.

Just throwing this out there, but having GPS speed watermarked in the video is considered essential by me. I suggest the same feature for anyone else installing a dash cam.

How do you add this with the FitCamX?
From what I can tell this brand does not offer anything in the line of GPS speed measurement. Which is why I wouldn’t purchase it.

It’s an important data point if someone were to try to claim negligence due to speed when establishing cause of an accident. It is also something easy to remove from a video if the user did not want it included as a data point for whatever reason.

As the saying goes, "Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have." However, I drive with a lead foot and would surely need to remove it so as not to incriminate myself. LOL.

If you need the GPS tracker, best to look at other brands and offerings than FitCamX as this is not a feature on current models, at least that I am aware of (escape clause and disclaimer).

That said, I have shown the install on my car to other GX and LC owners and the universal response is, "wow, that looks OEM". I love the look of mine and the functionality. I think I said this earlier, but I have used a number of different dash cam brands off of Amazon, BlackBoxMyCar (no affiliation) and the FitCamX, etc. FitCamX is the only model I have purchased more than one of and I am now on my fourth purchase from them. YMMV.

Determining speed is a simple distance over time calculation though. If you have video, you can easily do that calculation.

Having it displayed in the recording would certainly be convenient, but it's far from a dealbreaker. After all, investigators have been determining speeds from nothing but skid patterns for decades.

Has anybody installed their rear cam in this configuration - mounted to the inside of the front wind screen, facing the cabin?

I'm considering doing this in lieu of the rear hatch location, as the rear view AND both driver and passenger sides can be seen from the video. Not to mention a much more straight forward install. One of my concerns though would be what to do with all the excess cable.

Edit: One thing to add is that I'd flip the camera from how it's shown in the photo, so that the cord wouldn't be visible, and come out from the A pillar trim.

And no, I do not drive for Uber.

Great point. Just more info to corroborate the truth.

Getting a 2025 Luxury plus next month and ordered this from their black friday sale.

They are asking for a picture as stated below, has anyone done this and can send me for a Luxury plus?

"Please take a photo of the rear view mirror cover from the angle shown in the attached picture and send it to us."

I’m going to be the odd man out. I ordered this based on what I read here but I’m going to return it.

Installation: it’s very difficult to get the rear facing plastic housing back on the rear view mirror and snapped into place with the camera. Plan on a lot of time and frustration. The video instructions are insufficient. If you look closely and think about how each clip works it will help. But, I never want to do this again.

Product: the plastic is thin and cheap looking. It’s not equivalent to the Lexus plastic that houses the rearview mirror.

Wiring: easy plug and play with a tight fit.

Camera: I didn’t use it before I decided that this is an inferior product for the money. But, my research suggests that the video quality is mediocre.

In the end, I felt that this product was likely to fail sooner rather than later and I have zero desire to go through the torturous installation process again.

I’m going back to a more traditional design with a tried and true product that I’m certain has excellent video quality. I love how this camera is hidden, but for me the cons outweigh the pros.

AT $150 this is overpriced even if the installation was as simple as represented.

Buyer beware.

Of the three other vehicles I’ve installed one of these cameras, one was quite difficult (Audi). So, I can relate to the frustration. Maybe that experience gave me a better sense of what I should expect with the GX which installed without any difficulty, compared to one that challenged me on an Audi. Blackboxmycar may have some cameras you will find easier to install. They are my other go to for dashcams.

Yes, the top cover of the front camera is a pitta, especially for the mechanically declined, however i found the rest of the install fairly easy and I love the result. Maybe not I-MAX video quality but good enough for me.
