Given my OT+ will be in the mountain/elevation this winter where chains/cables are required.
What have folks used that will not destroy the nice alloy rims - assume we can only use the 'Cable Type' on the 265-70 R18s.
the manual says no chains, but I suspect that means no chains, and not cable type as you say. the Toyo OC A/T III tires are 'Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake' qualified, so that is helpful. I wonder what best tire pressure is for snow driving, in Colorado for example? In reading the requirements for Monarch Pass and others out there I found the info below. The language about 'either' is a bit unclear, but there is an online quiz that makes it pretty clear that the stock OT Toyo tires, assuming you have at least 3/16" tread left, qualifies.
"Traction Law
During winter storms, or when conditions require, CDOT will implement the Passenger Vehicle Traction Law. CDOT can implement the Passenger Vehicle Traction and Chain Laws on any state highway. During a Traction Law, all motorists are required to have EITHER:
4WD or AWD vehicle and 3/16” tread depth
Tires with a mud and snow designation (M+S icon) and 3/16” tread depth
Winter tires (mountain-snowflake icon) and 3/16” tread depth
Tires with an all-weather rating by the manufacturer and 3/16” tread depth
Chains or an approved alternative traction device"
And here are CO approved Alternative Traction Devices:
