Fun times in Moab region..
..continued:

Our highlight was traveling the White Rim Trail loop in Canyonlands NP. We entered and drove it clockwise based on available campsites for our dates. We drove the loop over 3 days, 2 nights. We stayed at campsite Airport D first, and then Candlestick the second night.
We were really, really lucky with the weather. It warmed up, the winds died down and there was no moisture during our time there. Blue skys and the trail was dry.

My daughter was a trooper, she spotted every obstacle I needed her to. Virtually all the challenging trail portions are on the western portion of the trail.
There was one dangerously tippy place on an uphill. I initially started up..then reversed back down (carefully!) about 10’ to reevaluate and gain a better angle, and then went further right where I could see a lot of rubber on certain rocks. This avoided the very high cliffside on the left and a very deep hole on the right which together puts you at an extremely unsafe lean angle on the edge of a cliff. My daughter did a perfect job providing small, safe steering corrections right on the edge of the cliff as we crawled over that section.

In all those rough, must-crawl places up or down I was 4Lo, center diff lock, manual 1st gear, MTS rock mode, and tires 23psi all 3 days (285/70R18, Toyo AT3). One foot on the brakes. I never needed the rear differential lock. I was really conscious not to drag anything. My ‘24 GX Overtrail has the 2.5” MT64 lift kit. I always had enough braking, and zero fade with my upgraded front brakes.
On normal trail portions I cruised in regular Eco, sometimes in manual 1st gear for modest climbs unless I really needed 4Lo. I was impressed how the truck always had enough power and grip. Everything was dry..so no wet slippage.

At night we stayed warm with the Howl Campfire R4 MKII, placed on top of a low CampChef over fire grill.
Another one of my new favorite tools is the Milwaukee M18 cordless portable inflator paired with the Red Lithium XC8.0 battery. It is quick and powerful, and so handy. It’s essentially perfect.

Changed the oil for the first time on my own this weekend. Not too bad of a process.

5,000 mile oil looked very dark. Didn’t send it in for analysis but worth considering doing oil changes well before the 10k intervals.
Actually bought my 2025 in Raleigh and drove it carefully through Appalachia to break it in. Changed the oil myself at 2200 miles as soon as I got home. Oil looked and felt very fresh, but old habits don't die easily.

Enjoy yours.

The Baja Boss A/T's E are great. Had them on my 4runner for 3 years and have them on my GX 550 now. Very quite and good wear. Aired down to 15 psi with no problems.
How do the load E tires ride? The sidewalls would be quite a bit stiffer than the OE SL rated tires. I’ve been debating options for mine and a bit scared to go to E rated tires but there are way, way more options in E than SL.

No need to be afraid of E tires. I use them on my Tacoma and Bronco as they are primarily off road vehicles and I want the small increase in sidewall strength. Most likely will replace the OEM GX tires with D or E tires.

Many of todays E tires are only slightly thicker and heavier than the same C rated tires. Cross-sectioned you often can't tell the difference. Run the tires at the correct pressure for your vehicle weight and they are fine for most people. If you want a luxury ride though, probably best to stick to SL highway tires.
