I appreciate the feedback. Its hard from pics to see if the steps are better than the factory OT, but that is a must. I watch them trying to turn their foot awkwardly to get sure footing, so I may get the kickout or ensure something as roughly an additional inch or so over factory. I can tell they struggle when trying to do it and I'm trying to eliminate that, plus its an easy sale to the family warden. This is exactly why I bought my Westcott sliders - my 7 & 10 year olds used to have to climb up into the back seats using both hands and feet. The school drop-off and pick-up line is a take-no-prisoners example of survival of the fittest. The Westcotts are tubular and mine have no kickout. Top deck plating is a must for little kids to use them as a step. I don't mind the tubular look...I never really gave it that much thought.
If you don't plan on going offroading I would just stay with the OEM running boards as they work great as a step. The OEM boards will be wider than any aftermarket sliders.I appreciate the feedback. And plenty of off-roaders need to sell them when they install rock sliders of all types. If you don't plan on going offroading I would just stay with the OEM running boards as they work great as a step. The OEM boards will be wider than any aftermarket sliders.
Currently installing Westcott, tho for a P+. Took me just over 3hrs to do one side. Blind bolts did not fit 4/6 holes, so had to get a step drill bit. Then spent a decent amount of time trying to get packing foam that must’ve got glued on to the end of the rail. Also had difficulty aligning the brackets. Something was off for sure but not by much, had to somewhat force couple bolts in..they were at a slight angle.
In terms of having more area for stepping..can’t say it seemed that much different than the OEM side steps. Does look better, tho think it’d look better if the rail ended at the wheel well like oem.
The stock Overtrail rock rails make miserable “steps”. The Westcott rock rails, or any aftermarket rock rail, make a huge difference as a step.I appreciate the feedback. I like the looks of these but they also appear to “end” by the rear door/wheel well too soon.SLEE for the win.
Covered the logo with grip tape… functional win.
Added some brass washers for effect and just installed the ambient light kit.
I super appreciate everyone posting pics with the step sliders installed and with pics with a tape measure (and their feet) to give us all a really great idea of what to expect in terms of look, style and function.
Do you have full specs for your sliders? What year GX 550 (‘24 vs ‘25)? Pre-tapped vs not? HREW vs DOM, etc?
They do look a bit short from that angle in his photo. When the rear door is open they are at the perfect place for the back seat peeps to step on.I like the looks of these but they also appear to “end” by the rear door/wheel well too soon.
Do they make getting in/out of the back seats better or…worse?
Also, would love to see the ambient light kit in action.
While they do taper, it’s well beyond the front of the rear seat is. So, perfectly functional as a step for the 2nd row seating. Perhaps a bit on the awkward side if wedging someone into the 3rd row.The thing I liked about the CBI ones is they don't taper as much as the others do. I need to use them as steps for family and the Slee ones taper midway through the rear door, so I prefer a design that keeps more of a step
I’m 99% sure this is what I’m gonna do for my ‘25 OT+.Just replaced my OEM rock sliders with these Westcott sliders on my 2025 OT. I got the sliders with step plate and rear kick out. The removal of the stock OEM sliders was pretty easy. Installing the Westcott sliders was harder because of the weight and tight clearances for some of the bolts. A set of Jack stands and a good bottle jack was really helpful. I am very happy with the construction, looks and function of the Westcott sliders. Frankly, the OEM sliders were pretty good as rock sliders (just no step). What do you guys think the OEM sliders are worth?

I’m getting close to taking my OEM sliders to the local reclametal for recycling. They’re laying outside under a tree, same condition as when they came off back in February. Maybe this week or next..they’ll be gone. Tired of looking at them.I’m 99% sure this is what I’m gonna do for my ‘25 OT+.
I don’t have jacks (yet) so don’t feel like trying this on my own.
I’ve seen “lightly used” OEM sliders for (I think) a few hundred?
