Before the AI knew I had the '24 GX, it advised against purchasing the plan but cited the ongoing engine issues to get it. I don't know how costly the plan will be and there is obviously two schools of thought on this. My wife is nervous about the engine and at the same time concerned about the plan's cost. I realize there is only one (I believe) failure reported on this forum so I am leaning against it. Thoughts and direction?
Thanks!

I dont think I've even see one engine failure reported here, do you have a link?

When deciding, it's well worth looking at the Warranty Coverage section on the main Lexus com website.

The power train warranty is for six years or 70k miles. This will cover the engine.

A base warranty is four years or 50 k miles. This is what covers the electronics.

These rides are absolutely loaded with electronics, so this is the sweet spot for extending warranty coverage.

If an engine fails or is recalled due to the debris issue then it's reasonable to assume the failure or recall will happen before six years or 70 k miles.

There's really no reason to even consider a warranty until you get closer to the factory warranty expiring. You can buy all the way up until that time and a lot can change in 4-6 years that might dictate whether you decide on keeping or not. Also recalls like these for the engine are valid even if you are past the standard factory warranty, so I'd look more at potentially replacing stuff like electrical systems(dash screen, main control/entertainment system/etc). There's a reason manufacturer's offer warranties and it's because they make money on them. Doesn't mean they won't benefit certain people/situations, but I'd wait and make the decision as you come up on the factory warranty expiring and whether you are pretty certain you will keep it another 5+ years after or not.

This is same approach I will take on my 2024. Future me will decide in May 2028 if I am keeping it. If I’m keeping it then I’ll likely buy the extended warranty driven by both the complex electronics (no HAVC without that screen) and the V35a.
