When I walked in to talk with my dealer last week about purchasing a '26 GX, I figured it was likely going to take a while to get one. Sure enough, my sales rep explained the dealership's process in detail. Basically give him the specs that are the most important to me with some alternate choices, put down a $5k deposit, then wait several months to get a call when a close match becomes available. As we were chatting about various trims, colors, etc. and he was showing me the listings on his computer monitor, he explained that the more flexible I was, the sooner I might get a call. Sounds reasonable. The situation is what it is and what he told me was very similar to my RX purchase with him about a year ago.
As we were looking at the list on his monitor of the various GX vehicles and their status, he said "Oh wow, here's one in transit that's available to purchase now!" Apparently a customer cancelled their order and the vehicle was in transit to the dealership, scheduled to be delivered within a few days. Everything was exactly what I wanted. Trim, color, interior, etc. After a brief negotiation over a few items on the buyers order (paid full MSRP for the car and that was not negotiable) we had a deal. I took delivery of this beautiful Eminent White Peal, Saddle Tan, Luxury Plus GX just 48 hours later!
I'm by no means very skilled at the car buying process. I tend to buy a vehicle and keep it for years, so I don't get a lot of experience. Who knows, maybe the whole "pull a rabbit out of my hat, I have a car just for YOU" experience was part of the quick close strategy of a very skilled dealership and sales rep. All I know for sure is that I'm very happy with this fabulous new Lexus GX 550!
