Negotiations and the Lexus Extended Warranty

I think you got a good deal on the 8yr/100k. Based on Bluegill's rec, I too refunded my ext warranty from my purchasing dealer and bought from Jerry. I had to cancel the first one on my own and once Jerry saw that it was cancelled in the Lexus/Toyota system, I bought it from him.

I highly recommend Jerry...super nice guy and great pricing

Yeah, I reached out to Jerry before I bought my Lexus to see what his pricing was and he told me that he can't sell to California and Washington due to their new laws. I was able to use his pricing to negotiate with the dealership I bought the car from (Lexus of Westminster). They originally offered $3000 for the 8 yr/75k miles, but I was able to get 8 yrs/100k miles for $2800. Not sure they'd honor that pricing without getting the rest of the bells and whistles they talked me into (financing with their lender, prepaid maintenance, gap coverage, etc.). Good luck!

What is the prepaid maintenance really buying? Just oil changes etc? This doesn't seem like it would cost that much. With BMW - maintenance was included for the first four years. Is that not the case with Lexus?

Here is the maintenance routine for the GX550 (see attached PDF). The cost for the items adds up quick. Yes, it includes oil changes but then also a lot of bigger ticket items at higher-mileage intervals.

We don't know the exact costs yet for major service such as 30,000 miles with things like brake fluid change, changing transfer case & differential oil, etc. but these services will likely cost nearly $2000.

I paid $3795 for a pre-paid maintenance plan through 75,000 miles. I figure I'll be getting a good $8000 or so of services.

I feel like I was ripped off getting the extended warranty dealership (bay area CA) offered me $3799 for 5yrs/80k. I'll be using the GX p+ (got it msrp) as a low mileage weekender and small commutes (6k a year). I tried to negotiate first it lowered from $4300 and then tried again and again but he stand firmed and I was in a rush that time since we (me and wife) had somewhere to go. Knowing that I can still get it refunded so I just opted to get it and maybe look for another dealership to offer me a better deal. What route should I take? Should I get a refund and look for another deal?

Am I missing something major here? Looking at the maintenance schedule all I see are oil changes, tire rotations, brake fluid flush, and spark plugs at 40k and 80k..Everything else looks like visual inspections for the most part. I guess this all adds up if using the dealer for services, but I just don't see a high maint cost. All super easy DIY stuff that could save a fortune.

Don't forget about the other little parts such as the transmission, the transfer case, and the front & rear differentials.
