Full Suspension Lifts for the GX 550 (3 Viewers)

How did it go?
So far, it’s a big upgrade from stock, I think primarily due to the excess weight I had up top from the tent, etc. Definitely less body roll and less tippy cornering. Only negative I’m still trying to track down is a clunk up front only when turning while at a severe downward angle—think steep, windy mountain roads. I notice there’s very little room upfront between the steering linkage and suspension components and wonder if there’s enough flex under those specific conditions to cause a bit of rubbing due to the increased thickness of the shocks (as I see what appears to be two slight marks/scoring on the front shock assemblies).

Did your upgrade kit include a new UCA?
Did they perform a front end alignment as part of the install?
I assume the marks/scoring are on the back (inside) of the struts? Or..?
Did they touch or disable the EKDSS mechanism in any way?
What wheel size/offset is on there right now?

If it helps you, I will carefully look at my MT64 front struts in the next 1-2 weeks when I remove my 285/70R18 and 18x8 +25 wheelset..and install my winter tire wheelset of Overtrail OE 18x7.5 +50 with 275/70R18 snow tires.

Will let you know what I find; but I have not heard any noise or clunking in any driving experiences thus far.

Yes, I installed new OME UCAs and aligned within specs.
The marks are on the front of the struts--I'll try to get photos at some point. I have no idea if this is the cause or result of the noise. I'm just speculating. It could have simply happened during install. It's pretty tight in there, and these are obviously much thicker than the ones that came off of there.
EKDSS should still be functional. We had numerous conversations about it, and they were familiar with it due to work on prior Toyotas/Lexus with KDSS. One of the main reasons I went with with the OME setup was because I knew it was compatible with the KDSS system.
Tires and wheels are still stock Overtrail and Toyo ATIIIs.

The only time I've noticed it was on very severe downhill slopes while at the same time performing a sharp turn--think going downhill on steep switchbacks. Otherwise, I haven't noticed it. It was only under very specific conditions, and I thought I felt a bit of feedback in the steering wheel, which is what led me to believe that the steering linkage could have been physically impacting something.

Ok. Will inspect mine.

In meantime…when I turn extremely sharply into my garage..at full stops, there is a bit of more effort required than before (which I chalk up to the new UCAs or newer, wider track from new tires, wheels). But no noise.

Jmeetze,

Yesterday I had a close inspection of my MT64 front struts. Everything has a nice roadwash from some recent rain, wet snow like 3 days ago. Yesterday the roads I drove on were dry, so I would have easily seen any rub marks from or onto other suspension, steering components.
I didn’t see a single thing even in the bright sunlight. Checked both sides with tires turned both ways, so I had a really good view. Nothing on the springs or main body.
I live on a mesa above our local town. Most times I’m taking the ‘escarpment’ road down as we head out for errands, local driving. It’s steep, slow and with very tight curves. I haven’t yet heard any rubbing or ill sounding noise from the suspension. My MT64 kit was installed late July.
It is a tight fit in there. My summer wheel setup is a 18x8 offset 25, with 285/70R18 tires.
In the next 2-3 weeks I’ll switch over to the snow tire setup - OE OT wheels with 275/70R18 tires.
If I discover anything I’ll let you know.
Happy Thanksgiving!

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

I don’t think I’ve seen Slee/ADS kit mentioned. Definitely on par with King/Fox’s top offerings.

i like fox stuff one of my buddies works for BDS/FOX if i could i would probably gone that direction but King has great customer support, Peter Vu at king always gives me the best technical support and warranty issues settled so quickly im glad i went the direction i did. plus that blue in the wheel wells pops so nice

Fox claimed a live valve version may be available for the gx/250/4runner in the future. I'll wait for that.
That live valve stuff is a pretty cool concept. I’ve not ridden in anything with FOX live valve stuff, but it makes good sense someone would build an active aftermarket suspension. Hard to find exact details on how it works. At first glance it looks like they are controlling fluid flow in and out of the reservoir.

I have a gen 3 F150 Raptor with stock Fox suspension with Live Valve. Its similar in theory to AVS, but Live Valve is much more sophisticated in control and programming. It controls valving and damping for low speed and high speed compression and rebound. To even further that sophistication, SDI E-Clik is also available to control it further

ICON CDEV is similar as well.

Huh, well I guess I have ridden in something with Live Valve. I wonder if its in the Braptor as well…

Having it work in conjunction with all of the internal bypassing must be pure black magic.

Reminds me of the TEIN EDFC that everyone got but no one ever used... I think it will be exactly the same unfortunately... they need some type of AI computer to run them properly but i don't think that tech exists today
