Ran into a new one for me. Was trying to program my wife's new GX550 Home-Link mirror. The mirror is the one with the smart menu system so it walks you through learning a remote for use with your garage doors.
I tried clearing codes, learning about two or three different time, every iteration between. I changed the battery in the remote and that did not help. I eventually noticed the remote I was using for the source was not a branded remote. It was a third party remote we purchased a few years ago (Amazon 893LM). The remote worked for the garage doors but it refused to learn and control the doors from the vehicle.
I ended up switching to a OEM branded remote (LiftMaster) and repeating the procedure. It worked the first time. So if your struggling with a HomeLink setup isssue try a OEM remote as the system seems to be very particular.
