Land Cruiser to GX 550 (1 Viewer)

We own both a land cruiser first edition ( my wife’s) and a GX 550 overtrail (mine). I think they are both excellent vehicles and i enjoy driving both of them, although I like my overtrail color (nori green) better. Although I read a lot of criticism of the land cruiser engine, I think it is quite good both on highways and dirt roads.
I'm thinking of purchasing a GX OT/OT+ and have an LC250 now. Can you comment on the ride quality? it would be the leading reason why I switch.

Is the ride quality? ie: GX's ability to soak up bumps and overall comfort - that much better?

i purchased the LC 250 in July after going back and forth between the GX and the Land Cruiser. The price point on the LC with the premium package was 10k less than the GX. OT+, so I justified it despite having some reservations about the engine.

I own an LX 600, so I thought the LC 250 would make a good daily driver. I've since discovered other members of our household think so too. That car disappears more often than I would have thought.

So, I bought another daily driver, the GX 550 OT+, and I do notice a world of difference between the two vehicles. The GX is quieter, smoother and more responsive on the highways.

We've agreed to keep the LC for the kids, the GX for my daily, the LX for long road trips and the EV for my wife's business. The extra vehicle in my mind is really the LX, but I just love that truck, and I can't bring myself to sell it.

Rode in my buddy’s 2027 LC250 the other day and man it makes me so happy I got the GX back in 2024. The motor in that thing is a JOKE. I was admittedly jealous of heated/ventilated rear seats, rear ceiling vents, JBL audio & rear tailgate lights (all part of $5k Premium package) but other than that the GX wins. He also paid $75k OTD whereas I paid $72k for my 2024 OT. Verdict: spend the extra $$ and get the GX

IMO, the LC's interior beats the OT GX's
  • Climate control: The ceiling-mounted A/C vents are a big plus. GX owners complain that their cabins don't cool down quickly enough, with some having to get the dealer to disable S-Flow
  • Seats: Real leather vs. synthetic leather
  • Physical controls: Real buttons are more tactile and versatile than relying on a touchscreen. You shouldn't have to fumble through 10 different menus to make an adjustment while out on the trails
  • Material quality: The new GX doesn't feel like it lives up to the Lexus name or the legacy of previous GX generations. The lack of woodgrain and other premium touches is disappointing
When I bought my LC, a huge decision-factor was MPG. I live in SoCal and average just 15.5 MPG. Toyota had heavily touted the hybrid system when the LC launched, but now the narrative seems to have shifted to "Toyota never claimed it was a hybrid for fuel efficiency; it was for low-end torque."

I've also beaten up my OEM shocks and suspension at this point. I'm considering sacrificing some of the LC's interior advantages for a noticeably better on-road ride and overall driving feel - especially if I'm getting similar MPG lol
