Has anyone done a true suspension lift on a GX550 Overtrail? Several options out now for the non-Overtrail, but I haven’t seen anything yet that allows you to continue using all the ride control, crawl and ekdss.

Any info much appreciated!

Yep I have as well as a few others. You do lose AVS, but no errors at all in the dash. Just unplug them at the shock and cap off or tape off the wire/connector. eKDSS still works. Running Dobinsons MRR extended travel with Icon tubular delta joint UCAs. Method 703's +35 offset BFG TAKO load c 315/70/17. I haven't put more info on here yet because I wanted to wait on my front bumper (JW Offroad) and my diff drop kit (Icon). At the moment, the ride is a bit stiff and I still feel all the small bumps too much (see overtrail vibration thread). The front bumper and winch will add around 200lbs I believe, and then once I decide what to do for rear bumper, that will hopefully add weight to smooth things out. Nose dive is WAY better than stock. Truck looks awesome and I don't have regrets at the moment.

I have been contemplated doing the King suspension lift which is pretty expensive. The cost for parts and labor is about $8K not including tires assuming you're using the original OEM wheels. With new wheels it will be around $10K. I'm still weighing the cost vs benefit in all of this. I may just opt for Nitto Grappler G3 275/70R18 SL and call it a day.

What are the components of the King suspension lift? I have the Westcott Preload lift but I am now doing a lot more off-roading than I initially thought I'm concerned that the Westcott lift may not be enough since many of the trails we take task the suspension more than I expected. Thank you in advance.

The components are:
  1. (2) Front King 2.5 Coilovers with Remote Reservoirs w/Compression Adjusters, Reservoir Brackets, All Necessary Hardware
  2. (2) Rear King 2.5 Shocks with Remote Reservoirs w/Compression Adjusters, Reservoir Brackets, All Necessary Hardware
  3. Camburg Kinetik Billet UCA
  4. ICON 2" Dual Rate Coil Spring Kit Rear
I just came back from Racetrack Playa in Death Valley, traversing 54 miles of washboard and rocky terrain. I'm sure the stock suspension took a beating. Airing down to 25 psi helped a little.

Since I'll be doing these roads more frequently, I think I'll have to seriously consider doing the King suspension lift. There were 2 or 3 4Runner and Tacoma vehicle with King shocks just flying by at 35 mph or higher. Hope this helps.

Thanks, that does help. Our trails don't have a lot of rocks but occasionally you find a few and a few big holes as well. There is a lot of washboard and I feel I have to be gingerly going over those. I just don't have the confidence that I'm not going to break something, since the shocks are pre-loaded. This is what I have been looking for. I live in San Diego I see you are in California. Would you mind sending me a pm with your King Lift Contact so I can see if there is a provider here in SD. Thanks again.

I see no shame in your last sentence. I'd love for mine to look more off road capable, but I truly don't need it or want to pay for it. I love the way it rides/drives in stock condition and I don't want to lose my warranty or any of those stock capabilities.

Yeah and I don't mean to be rude but all the after market installs look very .... non oem to me

You are indeed correct in stating the OEM ride is very nice and I'm quite hesitant to mess it up and voiding the warranty to boot. Still weighing the pros and cons at the moment. Just found out the current King shocks do not accommodate KDSS so that will give me some time to assess the matter.

Yeah and I don't mean to be rude but all the after market installs look very .... non oem to me

Nothing rude about that statement. I want to make sure that any suspension change I go with does not compromise the EKDSS

And AVS light

I can say you loose nothing. AVS is nice and the computer is doing all the work. They're still a oem shock. No codes are set when they're disconnected. The King ride is as plush as oem if not more. I did expect it to be a little stiffer of a ride but, the out of the box, the adjusts seem right on. There's 20 clicks on the damper to chose from.

What is your tire size after the lift? How much lift did you get? I'm thinking about 2 - 2.5" lift with 285/75R18 tires. I'm waiting for King to release the rear shocks that can accommodate KDSS which should be about a month.

Thank you for your input.

295/70/18 The Kings are available now, it's what I just got. About 2" but, are adjustable. Their problem had nothing to do with the rear. They had to redesign a bracket for the front passenger side because of the kdss lines in the way.

That looks awesome. Do you have a build thread for this? Are those Lexus factory rock sliders?

Thanks! No thread. Is there something you wanted to know about? Yes, they're oem sliders. I think they're as nice if not nicer, than most out there.

How'd you spec the suspension mod? Did you work with King directly, and do they have one GX550 "kit" that includes the Camburg UCAs? Or did this take more dot-connecting than that? Would also love to know about wheel offset and how much things poke out of the wheel wells. (hard to tell from the pics)

Tastefully done setup for sure!
