Strange noises in my GX550 – Driver’s side and rear cabin area

Hi everyone, I recently bought a 2024 Lexus GX550 and have been noticing some unusual noises inside the cabin. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar. • Left side near the driver’s seat: I always hear a soft clicking or ticking sound, especially when driving over uneven roads and become louder on the highway. It seems to be coming from the area near the B-pillar or possibly the door trim. • Right rear side: There’s also an intermittent noise coming from the rear passenger side. I brought the car to service and they said they added some sound deadening material, then it’s gotten a little better but sometimes it’s still a huge noise (you guys can easily hear from the second video) However, they told me the noise is normal because the GX550 is a body-on-frame truck, not a unibody SUV, and that the sound might be related to the EKDSS at work.

Both these noise have almost killed me, one of the most important reasons I bought this vehicle was that a brand-new Lexus at this price point, I expected better build quality and cabin refinement.

Has anyone else had similar issues with their GX550? Any tips or fixes would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yup. Your noise (rear passenger) sounds just like mine. Horribly annoying and unacceptable.

See thread below. Ongoing unresolved issue for me - been in the shop (2nd time) for 4 weeks now. I'll post an update there once resolved - or traded.

I have a '24 GX550 Premium and have had the exact same sounds. Just a few days after taking possession last fall I had a rattle, metal on metal like cookie sheets, in the passenger door. It lasted a couple days before I was able to get her in. Naturally, she made the sound the entire time until I dropped her off. They'd put the window down and, somehow, that "fixed" the issue. Since then she's developed new rattles. Seemed like it was related to the bench to me as the rattle could be heard and I could see the bench vibrating but they took her apart and said it was coming from the C-pillar, I believe they said. They then noticed I had an after-market dash cam and tried to blame it on a loose wire, only the rattle had been noticeable before I'd ever had the dash cam installed. They secured the wire, said it was all fixed and I headed home only to immediately hear the rattle again so I did a U-turn and went right back! I will say, they refunded me the labor costs and went back in but still blamed it on the loose wire so they, once again, secured it and for a few days it was good but the rattle is back and I'm now thinking they're going to have to take the whole headliner off to get to the bottom of the issue.

It's most certainly an issue with the metal panels in the C-pillar / roof area. It seems there's inadequate clearance between the panels resulting in the noise. I'm speaking exclusively to the service director now and he's committed to send me pictures and a video of the area in question. He says every time they think they have it fixed, it seems to migrate and/or come back. I believe, based on what I've been told to this point, and after reading forum posts here and on the LC forum, it's the result of a design flaw.

Yes, I have the same metallic tapping sound on Land Cruiser 250 series, but mine is coming from B pillar. It's all over the forums for Land Cruiser 250 series and GX550. Dealer attempted to change drivers seatbelt pulley, but it did not improve. It sounds like the welds in the pillars not being adequate. Please post if your dealer comes up with a definitive fix.

Here’s a picture the Service Director just sent me of the problematic area:

Looks promising! Metallic tap from the play in those overlapping panels. Just to clarify, thats where the roof meets the side panels with the liner off (next to the roof grab handle)?
Yessir, that's correct. I was just told they had it fixed and contingent on a couple more test drives (to confirm), it will be ready to pick up tomorrow. I've asked for a thorough write up of the solution/repair and will post an update once in-hand.
