Ok so it took me 4 hours to install but that was a lot of time spent digging out my tools and figuring out how everything goes together. Also it is really a 2 man job but I managed it by myself.
I used 2 rhino ramps, 2 floor jacks on the frame for safety, 4 wheel chocks on the front wheels, 1 motorcycle jack to lift the new exhaust into place. You will need standard and deep 14mm sockets, and an assortment of extensions. There is one heat shield just behind the cat on the left side that will need to be removed, which is secured by two 12mm head bolts.
The studs and springs are reused behind the cat on the left. On the right, behind the cats, is an elbow that is about 8" long. It does not need to be removed. All other connections will use the new hardware provided. The thick seal in the hardware kit is for the connection between the center pipe and elbow. The larger diameter, thinner, seal is for the center pipe to rear pipe connection.
I do suggest washing both pipes with soap and water before installing to avoid the massive cloud of white smoke that @jclaffee mentioned. It is real and I got some really funny looks from people in traffic.
First impressions:
Wow. Its got a deep and low growl. No, its not a v8, but I find the sound quite pleasing. Obviously it's loud when the engine is under load accelerating or climbing a grade. Drone is minimal to me. Cruising the canyons at around 45mph at 1500rpm, the drone is hardly noticeable. It gets louder as you climb to 2000rpm. Then past 2000rpm I can imagine it getting a little old. I also had it on the highway at about 75 and felt the drone was minimal while cruising between 1500 and 2000rpm. Its there, but my wife and I were able to have a conversation without raising our voices and my hyper and anxious puppy was able to fall asleep. Keep in mind that this is all entirely subjective so YMMV.
Am I keeping it? Hell yes. Will be posting my stock exhaust for sale shortly for those that got the TRD from the port and want something quieter.
Standard parts, left. TRD, right. Elbow that I didn't need to remove, top center. Note that on stock exhaust and the MagnaFlow, the inlet pipes are joined before entering the muffler. On the TRD the pipes enter the muffler separately, which I expect would result in better flow. That is a win for the TRD in my book.
