Has anyone installed a blow off valve upgrade yet? More turbo noise out of the engine would be pretty nice.

I see lots of these optional bolt on, duct tape on, designed for pennies better than what Lexus spends billions on R&D.

Sadly many who add these who'dingies later post a thread of despair once it starts to nuke the GX.

I beg to differ....Lexus designs with an intent to appease the masses, create a reliable product and to maximize profits. Those 3 always don't pull the product in the same direction. Just because there is a Lexus logo on it doesn't mean it is the peak of engineering R&D (back seat lever for example). No matter how many billions were spent, there is always room for improvement as they design to specific goal, not for the best possible product.

I don't disagree that those who choose to go with aftermarket should be able to handle it when something goes wrong with their car.

There is always room for improvement - but so many of the ‘tuning parts’ makers try to solve 1 problem while missing that all the parts of a system have to work together day in and day out. It’s like the nonsensical chip makers who brag about 50 more horsepower while forgetting about the down stream components to the silly ‘cold air’ systems. On that topic we have several folks regretting the mess that has been created.

I have two good friends that work for the Motorsports side at Porsche in Stuttgart. Engineers that would be excited about making dishwashers if that was where they found themselves doing. We’ve had many discussions about tweaking my 3.8 997 engine. The pragmatic answer was that I could find someone out there to add 20-40hp - but unless you look at the whole system - fuel, injection, emissions, sensors, computer etc - it will likely not add much that will offset the lose of reliability.

I just find that most shortcuts end up costing more in the end. But, I’m just another opinion on a forum.

I’ve been wrenching on cars for a few decades now and I completely agree. When people started putting fart mufflers on their junk back in the day, it wasn’t much longer until the car was throwing codes and eventually smoking.

There’s a reason resale is lower if the vehicle has any aftermarket modifications, and for good reasons. I certainly wouldn’t want something that was tuned or modified, even if it included a whole re-engineering. But that’s me…

I do enjoy seeing what others do so I can learn more, while appreciating the car world. To each their own.

Cheers

While can’t speak for GX, for many platforms BOV with stock turbo can be problematic, if anything no gain. Would want recirculating valve, and some BOVs allow for adjustment for vent to air to get that whoosh sound..but too much and get issues.

Great add thank you. Will be skipping on the BOV as much as I want to hear the whistle.

For overall modification comments... I come from a 2000s tuner background and enjoy the process. If you are against tuning and modifications, I would simply just stay out of the "Modification" section of the forum. Forums are dying and threads would be boring if it's all filled with stock car photos in different colors.
